¹⁶ At first his disciples did not understand all this.^(A) Only after Jesus was glorified^(B) did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

²² After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.^(A) Then they believed the scripture^(B) and the words that Jesus had spoken.

²⁶ But the Advocate,^(A) the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,^(B) will teach you all things^(C) and will remind you of everything I have said to you.^(D)

³⁹ By this he meant the Spirit,^(A) whom those who believed in him were later to receive.^(B) Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.^(C)

³⁶ “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord^(A) and Messiah.”^(B)

²³ Jesus replied, “The hour^(A) has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.^(B)

² fixing our eyes on Jesus,^(A) the pioneer^(B) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,^(C) scorning its shame,^(D) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.^(E)

The High Priest of a New Covenant

8 Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest,^(A) who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,^(B)

¹³ The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,^(A) the God of our fathers,^(B) has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over^(C) to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate,^(D) though he had decided to let him go.^(E)
