Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead

38 Jesus, once more deeply moved,(A) came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.(B) 39 “Take away the stone,” he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”(C)

40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe,(D) you will see the glory of God?”(E)

41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up(F) and said, “Father,(G) I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here,(H) that they may believe that you sent me.”(I)

43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”(J) 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen,(K) and a cloth around his face.(L)

Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

The Seventh Sign: Raising Lazarus from the Dead

38 Then Jesus, angry[a] in Himself again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it.(A) 39 “Remove the stone,” Jesus said.

Martha, the dead man’s sister, told Him, “Lord, he’s already decaying.[b] It’s been four days.”

40 Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory(B) of God?”(C)

41 So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes and said, “Father, I thank(D) You that You heard Me.(E) 42 I know that You always hear Me, but because of the crowd standing here I said this, so they may believe You sent(F) Me.” 43 After He said this, He shouted with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out bound hand and foot with linen strips and with his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him and let him go.”
