40 Jesus said to her, (A)“Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see (B)the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus (C)lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 (D)I knew that you always hear me, but I said this (E)on account of the people standing around, (F)that they may believe that you sent me.” 43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.”

40 λέγει αὐτῇ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Οὐκ εἶπόν σοι ὅτι ἐὰν πιστεύσῃς [a]ὄψῃ τὴν δόξαν τοῦ θεοῦ; 41 ἦραν οὖν τὸν [b]λίθον. ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἦρεν τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἄνω καὶ εἶπεν· Πάτερ, εὐχαριστῶ σοι ὅτι ἤκουσάς μου, 42 ἐγὼ δὲ ᾔδειν ὅτι πάντοτέ μου ἀκούεις· ἀλλὰ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον τὸν περιεστῶτα εἶπον, ἵνα πιστεύσωσιν ὅτι σύ με ἀπέστειλας. 43 καὶ ταῦτα εἰπὼν φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἐκραύγασεν· Λάζαρε, δεῦρο ἔξω.

Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, thank you for hearing me. 42 You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me.” 43 Then Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”
