Lazarus Raised from the Dead

³⁸ Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a ^(A)stone lay against it. ³⁹ Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”

Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

⁴⁰ Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would ^(B)see the glory of God?” ⁴¹ Then they took away the stone ^[a]from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. ⁴² And I know that You always hear Me, but ^(C)because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” ⁴³ Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” ⁴⁴ And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with ^(D)graveclothes, and ^(E)his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

The Plot to Kill Jesus^(F)

⁴⁵ Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, ^(G)and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went away to the Pharisees and ^(H)told them the things Jesus did. ^47 (I)Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, ^(J)“What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation.”

⁴⁹ And one of them, ^(K)Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, ^50 (L)nor do you consider that it is expedient for ^[b]us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.” ⁵¹ Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, ⁵² and ^(M)not for that nation only, but ^(N)also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.

⁵³ Then, from that day on, they plotted to ^(O)put Him to death. ^54 (P)Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called ^(Q)Ephraim, and there remained with His disciples.

^55 (R)And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went from the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to ^(S)purify themselves. ^56 (T)Then they sought Jesus, and spoke among themselves as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that He will not come to the feast?” ⁵⁷ Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if anyone knew where He was, he should report it, that they might ^(U)seize Him.

Ten Lepers Cleansed

¹¹ Now it happened ^(A)as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. ¹² Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, ^(B)who stood afar off. ¹³ And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

¹⁴ So when He saw them, He said to them, ^(C)“Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.

¹⁵ And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice ^(D)glorified God, ¹⁶ and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a ^(E)Samaritan.

¹⁷ So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? ¹⁸ Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” ^19 (F)And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

The Coming of the Kingdom^(G)

²⁰ Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; ^21 (H)nor will they say, ^[a]‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, ^(I)the kingdom of God is ^[b]within you.”

²² Then He said to the disciples, ^(J)“The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. ^23 (K)And they will say to you, ^[c]‘Look here!’ or ‘Look there!’ Do not go after them or follow them. ^24 (L)For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. ^25 (M)But first He must suffer many things and be ^(N)rejected by this generation. ^26 (O)And as it ^(P)was in the ^(Q)days of ^(R)Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the ^(S)day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and ^(T)destroyed them all. ^28 (U)Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but on ^(V)the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man ^(W)is revealed.

³¹ “In that day, he ^(X)who is on the housetop, and his ^[d]goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. ^32 (Y)Remember Lot’s wife. ^33 (Z)Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. ^34 (AA)I tell you, in that night there will be two ^[e]men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. ^35 (AB)Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. ^36 [f]Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.”

³⁷ And they answered and said to Him, ^(AC)“Where, Lord?”

So He said to them, “Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.”

The Parable of the Persistent Widow

18 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men ^(AD)always ought to pray and not lose heart, ² saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor ^[g]regard man. ³ Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ^[h]‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ ⁴ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, ^5 (AE)yet because this widow troubles me I will ^[i]avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ”

⁶ Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. ⁷ And ^(AF)shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? ⁸ I tell you ^(AG)that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
