³³ When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved^(A) in spirit and troubled.^(B)

Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead

³⁸ Jesus, once more deeply moved,^(A) came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.^(B)

²⁷ “Now my soul is troubled,^(A) and what shall I say? ‘Father,^(B) save me from this hour’?^(C) No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.

⁵ He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.^(A)

³⁰ Deeply moved^(A) at the sight of his brother, Joseph hurried out and looked for a place to weep. He went into his private room and wept^(B) there.

³¹ After he had washed his face, he came out and, controlling himself,^(C) said, “Serve the food.”^(D)

⁷ During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions^(A) with fervent cries and tears^(B) to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard^(C) because of his reverent submission.^{(D) 8} Son^(E) though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered^(F)

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest^(A) who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are^(B)—yet he did not sin.^(C)

³³ He took Peter, James and John^(A) along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. ³⁴ “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,”^(B) he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”

³⁵ Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour^(C) might pass from him.
