¹⁶ Then Thomas^(A) (also known as Didymus^[a]) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

² Simon Peter, Thomas^(A) (also known as Didymus^[a]), Nathanael^(B) from Cana in Galilee,^(C) the sons of Zebedee,^(D) and two other disciples were together.

³ Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;

³⁷ Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”

¹⁵ Matthew,^(A) Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot,

¹⁸ Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot

³⁵ But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you,^(A) I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.

¹³ When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room^(A) where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.^(B)

Jesus Appears to Thomas

²⁴ Now Thomas^(A) (also known as Didymus^[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. ²⁵ So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side,^(B) I will not believe.”^(C)

²⁶ A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace^(D) be with you!”^{(E) 27} Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”^(F)

²⁸ Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

²⁹ Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed;^(G) blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”^(H)
