¹¹ After saying this, he told them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to awaken him.”

² Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth^[a] shall awake, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt.^(A)

⁶⁰ Then he knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he died.^[a](A)

¹³ Jesus, however, had been speaking about his death, but they thought that he was referring merely to sleep.

¹⁰ who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with him.^(A)

¹⁴ For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died.^{[a](A) 15} For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died.^[b]

¹⁴ for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

⁵¹ Look, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die,^[a] but we will all be changed,^(A)

⁴³ When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” ⁴⁴ The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”^(A)

³⁹ When he had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.”
