The Good Shepherd and His Sheep
10 “Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.(A) 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.(B) 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice.(C) He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.(D) 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.(E) 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech,(F) but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.(G)
7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am(H) the gate(I) for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me(J) are thieves and robbers,(K) but the sheep have not listened to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.[a] They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life,(L) and have it to the full.(M)
11 “I am(N) the good shepherd.(O) The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.(P) 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away.(Q) Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
14 “I am the good shepherd;(R) I know my sheep(S) and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father(T)—and I lay down my life for the sheep.(U) 16 I have other sheep(V) that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock(W) and one shepherd.(X) 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life(Y)—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.(Z) I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”(AA)
19 The Jews who heard these words were again divided.(AB) 20 Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed(AC) and raving mad.(AD) Why listen to him?”
21 But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon.(AE) Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”(AF)
Further Conflict Over Jesus’ Claims
22 Then came the Festival of Dedication[b] at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade.(AG) 24 The Jews(AH) who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”(AI)
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you,(AJ) but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me,(AK) 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep.(AL) 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them,(AM) and they follow me.(AN) 28 I give them eternal life,(AO) and they shall never perish;(AP) no one will snatch them out of my hand.(AQ) 29 My Father, who has given them to me,(AR) is greater than all[c];(AS) no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”(AT)
31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him,(AU) 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”
33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”(AV)
34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law,(AW) ‘I have said you are “gods”’[d]?(AX) 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God(AY) came—and Scripture cannot be set aside(AZ)— 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart(BA) as his very own(BB) and sent into the world?(BC) Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?(BD) 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father.(BE) 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”(BF) 39 Again they tried to seize him,(BG) but he escaped their grasp.(BH)
40 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan(BI) to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed, 41 and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign,(BJ) all that John said about this man was true.”(BK) 42 And in that place many believed in Jesus.(BL)

10 Truly, truly, I say to you, he that cometh not in by the door into the fold of sheep, but ascendeth [up] by another way, is a night thief and a day thief.
2 But he that entereth by the door, is the shepherd of the sheep.
3 To this the porter openeth, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4 And when he hath done out his own sheep [And when he hath sent out his own sheep], he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him; for they know his voice.
5 But they follow not an alien, but flee from him; for they have not known the voice of aliens.
6 Jesus said to them this proverb; but they knew not what he spake to them.
7 Therefore Jesus said to them again, Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 As many as have come, were night thieves and day thieves, but the sheep heard not them. [All how many ever came before me, be night thieves and day thieves, but the sheep heard not them.]
9 I am the door. If any man shall enter by me, he shall be saved; and he shall go in, and shall go out, and he shall find pastures.
10 A night thief cometh not, but that he steal, slay, and destroy; and I came, that they have life, and have more plenteously. [A night thief cometh not, but that he steal, and slay, and lose; I came, that they have life, and have more plenteously.]
11 I am a good shepherd; a good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep.
12 But an hired hind, and that is not the shepherd, whose be not the sheep his own [whose the sheep be not his own], seeth a wolf coming, and he leaveth the sheep, and fleeth; and the wolf snatcheth, and scattereth the sheep.
13 And the hired hind fleeth, for he is an hired hind, and it pertaineth not to him of the sheep.
14 I am a good shepherd, and I know my sheep, and my sheep know me.
15 As the Father hath known me, I know the Father; and I put my life for my sheep.
16 [And] I have other sheep, that be not of this fold, and it behooveth me to bring them together, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be made one fold and one shepherd.
17 Therefore the Father loveth me, for I put my life, that again I take it.
18 No man taketh it from me, but I put it of myself. I have power to put it, and I have power to take it again. This commandment I have taken of my Father.
19 Again dissension was made among the Jews for these words.
20 And many of them said, He hath a devil, and maddeth [He hath a devil, and maddeth, or waxeth mad]; what hear ye him?
21 Other men said, These words be not of a man that hath a devil. Whether the devil may open the eyes of blind men [Whether a devil may open the eyes of blind men]?
22 But the feasts of hallowing of the temple were made in Jerusalem, and it was winter.
23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in the porch of Solomon.
24 Therefore the Jews came about him, and said to him, How long takest thou away our soul? if thou art Christ, say thou to us openly [and said to him, How long dost thou away our soul? if thou art Christ, say to us plainly, or openly].
25 Jesus answered to them, I speak to you, and ye believe not; the works that I do in the name of my Father, bear witnessing of me [the works that I do in the name of my Father, these bear witness of me].
26 But ye believe not, for ye be not of my sheep.
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
28 And I give to them everlasting life, and they shall not perish without end, and none shall snatch them out of mine hand. [And I shall give to them everlasting life, and they shall not perish into without end, and any man shall not snatch them out of mine hand.]
29 That thing that my Father gave to me, is more than all things [That thing that my Father gave to me, is more than all]; and no man may snatch from my Father's hand.
30 I and the Father be one.
31 The Jews took up stones, to stone him.
32 Jesus answered to them, I have showed to you many good works of my Father, for which work of them stone ye me?
33 The Jews answered to him, We stone thee not of good work, but of blasphemy, and for thou, since thou art a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered to them, Whether it is not written in your law, That I said, Ye be gods?
35 If he said that they were gods, to whom the word of God was made, and the scripture may not be undone,
36 that that the Father hath hallowed, and hath sent into the world [which the Father hallowed, and sent into the world], ye say, That thou blasphemest, for I said, I am God's Son?
37 If I do not the works of my Father, do not ye believe to me;
38 but if I do, though ye will not believe to me, believe ye to the works; that ye know and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.
39 Therefore they sought to take him, and he went out of their hands.
40 And he went again over Jordan, into that place where John was first baptizing, and he dwelt there.
41 And many came to him, and said, For John did no miracle [Forsooth John did no sign, or miracle]; and all things whatever John said of this, were sooth.
42 And many believed in him.

Người ấy gọi tên các chiên mình và dẫn chúng ra ngoài. 4 Khi đàn chiên của người ấy ra hết, người ấy đi trước, và đàn chiên theo sau, vì chúng quen tiếng người ấy. 5 Chiên không đi theo người lạ, nhưng chạy trốn người lạ, vì chúng không quen tiếng người lạ.”
6 Ðức Chúa Jesus dùng ngụ ngôn này để nói với họ, nhưng họ không hiểu ý nghĩa những điều Ngài nói với họ.
7 Ðức Chúa Jesus lại nói với họ, “Quả thật, quả thật, Ta nói với các ngươi, Ta là cửa để chiên ra vào. 8 Tất cả những kẻ đã đến trước Ta đều là trộm cướp, và chiên không nghe theo chúng. 9 Ta là cửa; nếu ai bởi Ta mà vào, người ấy sẽ được cứu, và sẽ vào ra và gặp đồng cỏ. 10 Kẻ trộm đến chỉ để lấy cắp, giết hại, và tiêu diệt. Ta đến để chiên được sống và được sống dư dật.
11 Ta là người chăn tốt; người chăn tốt hy sinh tính mạng mình cho chiên. 12 Kẻ chăn thuê chẳng phải là người chăn thật, vì chiên không phải của nó. Khi thấy muông sói đến, nó bỏ chiên chạy trốn. Muông sói vồ lấy chiên và làm cho chiên tan lạc. 13 Kẻ chăn thuê bỏ chạy, vì nó chỉ làm thuê và không quan tâm đến chiên. 14 Ta là người chăn tốt; Ta biết chiên Ta, và chiên Ta biết Ta, 15 cũng như Cha biết Ta, và Ta biết Cha. Ta hy sinh tính mạng mình cho chiên. 16 Ta còn những chiên khác chưa thuộc về ràn này; Ta cũng phải đưa chúng về, và chúng sẽ nghe tiếng Ta, rồi sẽ chỉ có một đàn chiên và một người chăn.

Người Do-thái Khước Từ Chúa
22 Mùa đông ấy có lễ kỷ niệm đền thờ được cung hiến[a] tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. 23 Ðức Chúa Jesus đi dạo ở Hành Lang Sa-lô-môn trong sân đền thờ. 24 Người Do-thái kéo đến quanh Ngài và nói với Ngài, “Thầy cứ để chúng tôi phân vân mãi cho đến bao giờ? Nếu Thầy là Ðấng Christ, xin nói thẳng cho chúng tôi biết đi.”
25 Ðức Chúa Jesus trả lời họ, “Ta đã nói với các ngươi nhưng các ngươi không tin. Những việc Ta nhân danh Cha Ta thực hiện làm chứng cho Ta. 26 Nhưng các ngươi không tin, vì các ngươi không phải chiên Ta. 27 Chiên Ta nghe tiếng Ta; Ta biết chúng, và chúng theo Ta. 28 Ta ban cho chúng sự sống đời đời. Chúng sẽ không bao giờ chết mất. Không ai sẽ cướp chúng khỏi tay Ta. 29 Cha Ta, Ðấng vĩ đại hơn tất cả, đã ban những chiên ấy cho Ta. Không ai có thể giựt chúng khỏi tay Cha. 30 Ta với Cha là một.”
31 Người Do-thái lại lượm đá để ném Ngài. 32 Ðức Chúa Jesus nói với họ, “Ta đã làm trước mắt các ngươi biết bao việc tốt đẹp của Cha giao; vì việc nào trong các việc đó mà các ngươi muốn ném đá Ta?”
33 Người Do-thái trả lời Ngài, “Không phải vì một việc tốt đẹp nào Thầy làm mà chúng tôi muốn ném đá Thầy, nhưng vì Thầy đã phạm thượng. Thầy chỉ là người mà tự cho mình là Ðức Chúa Trời.”
34 Ðức Chúa Jesus trả lời họ, “Chẳng phải trong Luật Pháp các ngươi chép,
‘Ta nói, “Các ngươi là các thần”’
hay sao? 35 Nếu những người được lời Ðức Chúa Trời phán với mà được Ngài gọi là ‘các thần’ –và lời Kinh Thánh không thể bị phế bỏ– 36 thì tại sao các ngươi kết tội Ta, người đã được Cha biệt riêng ra thánh và sai xuống thế gian rằng, ‘Thầy đã phạm thượng’ vì Ta nói, ‘Ta là Con Ðức Chúa Trời’? 37 Nếu Ta không làm những việc của Cha Ta, đừng tin Ta. 38 Nhưng nếu Ta làm, dù các ngươi không tin Ta, hãy tin những việc Ta làm, để các ngươi biết và hiểu rằng Cha ở trong Ta và Ta ở trong Cha.”
39 Vậy họ tìm cách bắt Ngài, nhưng Ngài thoát khỏi tay họ.
Chúa Lui Về Bên Kia Sông Giô-đanh
40 Ngài trở qua bên kia Sông Giô-đanh, nơi Giăng đã làm báp-têm trước kia, và ở lại đó. 41 Nhiều người đến gặp Ngài và nói, “Giăng chẳng làm phép lạ nào, nhưng tất cả những gì Giăng nói về người này đều đúng.” 42 Nhiều người tin Ngài tại đó.
