¹⁸ No one takes^[a] it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. I have received this command from my Father.”

⁶ as he says also in another place,

⁷ In the days of his flesh, Jesus^[a] offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.^{(B) 8} Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered,^{(C) 9} and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,^(D)

¹⁷ For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again.

⁹ but we do see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower^[a] than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God^[b] he might taste death for everyone.^(A)

¹⁹ Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”^{(A) 20} The Jews then said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?” ²¹ But he was speaking of the temple of his body.^(B)

³¹ but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us be on our way.^(A)

³⁸ for I have come down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me.^(A)
