⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.^{(A) 41} He first found his brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated Anointed^[a]).^{(B) 42} He brought Simon^[b] to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas”^[c] (which is translated Peter^[d]).^(C)

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, ⁹ “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish. But what are they among so many people?”

Some Greeks Wish to See Jesus

²⁰ Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks.^{(A) 21} They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” ²² Philip went and told Andrew, then Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.
