²⁹ On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

God’s Love for the World

¹⁶ For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world in order that he should judge^[a] the world, but in order that the world should be saved through him. ¹⁸ The one who believes in him is not judged,^[b] but the one who does not believe has already been judged,^[c] because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

²⁴ Truly, truly I say to you that the one who hears my word and who believes the one who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

²⁵ “Truly, truly I say to you, that an hour is coming—and now is here—when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and the ones who hear will live.

⁸ but God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while^[a] we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

³ For I passed on to you as of first importance^[a] what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,

¹⁵ And because of this, he is the mediator of a new covenant, in order that, because^[a] a death has taken place for the redemption of transgressions committed during the first covenant, those who are the called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

² like newborn infants long for the unadulterated spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up to salvation,
