²⁶ John answered them, “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know,

⁵ for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with^[a] the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”^(A)

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world came into being through him, yet the world did not know him.^{(A) 11} He came to what was his own,^[a] and his own people did not accept him.

⁸ I have baptized you with^[a] water, but he will baptize you with^[b] the Holy Spirit.”^(A)

¹¹ “I baptize you with^[a] water for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I, and I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with^[b] the Holy Spirit and fire.^(A)

¹⁹ Then they said to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”^(A)

¹⁶ John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with^[a] the Holy Spirit and fire.^(A)

3 ¹ See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God, and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

¹⁶ And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’^(A)

²⁵ “Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you, and these know that you have sent me.^(A)
