¹⁴ And ^(A)the Word ^(B)became flesh and ^(C)dwelt among us, ^(D)and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son^[a] from the Father, full of ^(E)grace and ^(F)truth.

⁹ In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that ^(A)God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.

¹⁶ Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness:

The Word Became Flesh

1 ^(A)In the beginning was ^(B)the Word, and ^(C)the Word was with God, and ^(D)the Word was God.

⁴ But ^(A)when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, ^(B)born ^(C)of woman, born ^(D)under the law,

³ He is the radiance of the glory of God and ^(A)the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. ^(B)After making purification for sins, ^(C)he sat down ^(D)at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

The Word of Life

1 ^(A)That which was ^(B)from the beginning, ^(C)which we have heard, ^(D)which we have seen with our eyes, ^(E)which we looked upon and ^(F)have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— ^2 (G)the life ^(H)was made manifest, and we have seen it, and ^(I)testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, ^(J)which was with the Father and ^(K)was made manifest to us—

^6 (A)who, though he was in ^(B)the form of God, did not count equality with God ^(C)a thing to be grasped,^{[a] 7} but ^(D)emptied himself, by taking the form of a ^(E)servant,^{[b] (F)}being born in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in human form, he humbled himself by ^(G)becoming obedient to the point of death, ^(H)even death on a cross.
