^9 (A)The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. ¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet ^(B)the world did not know him. ¹¹ He came to ^(C)his own,^[a] and ^(D)his own people^{[b] (E)}did not receive him. ¹² But to all who did receive him, ^(F)who believed in his name, ^(G)he gave the right ^(H)to become ^(I)children of God, ¹³ who ^(J)were born, ^(K)not of blood ^(L)nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

^11 (A)I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd ^(B)lays down his life for the sheep.

¹⁰ So ^(A)Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and ^(B)Hur went up to the top of the hill. ¹¹ Whenever Moses ^(C)held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. ¹² But Moses' hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and ^(D)Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. ¹³ And ^(E)Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.

¹⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of ^(F)Joshua, that ^(G)I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” ¹⁵ And Moses ^(H)built an altar and called the name of it, The Lord Is My Banner, ¹⁶ saying, “A hand upon the throne^[a] of the Lord! ^(I)The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.”

³² And John ^(A)bore witness: ^(B)“I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and ^(C)it remained on him.

¹³ And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. ¹⁴ So Abraham called the name of that place, ^(A)“The Lord will provide”;^[a] as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”^[b]

Behold, the Lamb of God

²⁹ The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, ^(A)the Lamb of God, who ^(B)takes away the sin ^(C)of the world!

⁸ Jesus Christ is ^(A)the same yesterday and today and forever.
