⁵⁵ Though you do not know him,^(A) I know him.^(B) If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.^(C)

¹⁹ Then they asked him, “Where is your father?”

“You do not know me or my Father,”^(A) Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”^(B)

⁴⁴ You belong to your father, the devil,^(A) and you want to carry out your father’s desires.^(B) He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.^(C)

²⁸ Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts,^(A) cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from.^(B) I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true.^(C) You do not know him, ²⁹ but I know him^(D) because I am from him and he sent me.”^(E)

⁵¹ Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.”^(A)
