46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says.(A) The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

Jesus’ Claims About Himself

48 The Jews answered him, “Aren’t we right in saying that you are a Samaritan(B) and demon-possessed?”(C)

49 “I am not possessed by a demon,” said Jesus, “but I honor my Father and you dishonor me. 50 I am not seeking glory for myself;(D) but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge. 51 Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.”(E)

52 At this they exclaimed, “Now we know that you are demon-possessed!(F) Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death. 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham?(G) He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”

54 Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself,(H) my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.(I) 55 Though you do not know him,(J) I know him.(K) If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word.(L) 56 Your father Abraham(M) rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it(N) and was glad.”

57 “You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”

58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born,(O) I am!”(P) 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him,(Q) but Jesus hid himself,(R) slipping away from the temple grounds.

46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Before Abraham Was, I AM

48 Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and (B)have a demon?”

49 Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and (C)you dishonor Me. 50 And (D)I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges. 51 Most assuredly, I say to you, (E)if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”

52 Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You (F)have a demon! (G)Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.’ 53 Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. (H)Who do You make Yourself out to be?”

54 Jesus answered, (I)“If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. (J)It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is [a]your God. 55 Yet (K)you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him,’ I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and (L)keep His word. 56 Your father Abraham (M)rejoiced to see My day, (N)and he saw it and was glad.”

57 Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”

58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, (O)before Abraham was, (P)I AM.”

59 Then (Q)they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, (R)going[b] through the midst of them, and so passed by.
