41 Other people said, ‘This man is the Messiah.’ But some other people said, ‘The Messiah will not come from Galilee! 42 The Bible says that the Messiah will come from King David's family.[a] He will come from Bethlehem, the town where David lived.’ 43 In this way the people had different thoughts about Jesus.

Still others asked, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee?(A) 42 Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants(B) and from Bethlehem,(C) the town where David lived?” 43 Thus the people were divided(D) because of Jesus.
