³⁶ What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”^(A)

³⁴ You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”^(A)

⁹ “How can this be?”^(A) Nicodemus asked.

¹⁴ The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God^(A) but considers them foolishness,^(B) and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

¹⁷ At this, some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’^(A) and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?”^{(B) 18} They kept asking, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand what he is saying.”
