19 (A)Has not Moses given you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. (B)Why do you seek to kill me?” 20 The crowd answered, (C)“You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you?” 21 Jesus answered them, “I did (D)one work, and you all marvel at it. 22 (E)Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but (F)from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. 23 If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, (G)are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man's whole body well? 24 (H)Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”

Can This Be the Christ?

25 Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom (I)they seek to kill? 26 And here he is, (J)speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that (K)the authorities really know that this is the Christ? 27 But (L)we know (M)where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, (N)no one will know where he comes from.” 28 So Jesus proclaimed, (O)as he taught in the temple, (P)“You know me, and you know where I come from. But (Q)I have not come of my own accord. (R)He who sent me is true, (S)and him you do not know. 29 (T)I know him, for I come (U)from him, and (V)he sent me.” 30 (W)So they were seeking to arrest him, but (X)no one laid a hand on him, (Y)because his hour had not yet come. 31 Yet (Z)many of the people believed in him. They said, (AA)“When the Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?”

Officers Sent to Arrest Jesus

32 The Pharisees heard the crowd (AB)muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent (AC)officers to arrest him. 33 Jesus then said, (AD)“I will be with you a little longer, and then (AE)I am going to him who sent me. 34 (AF)You will seek me and you will not find me. Where I am you cannot come.” 35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? (AG)Does he intend to go to (AH)the Dispersion among (AI)the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What does he mean by saying, (AJ)‘You will seek me and you will not find me,’ and, ‘Where I am you cannot come’?”

19 Has not Moses given you the law?(A) Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?”(B)

20 “You are demon-possessed,”(C) the crowd answered. “Who is trying to kill you?”

21 Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle,(D) and you are all amazed. 22 Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision(E) (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs),(F) you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath. 23 Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath? 24 Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”(G)

Division Over Who Jesus Is

25 At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?(H) 26 Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities(I) really concluded that he is the Messiah?(J) 27 But we know where this man is from;(K) when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.”

28 Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts,(L) cried out, “Yes, you know me, and you know where I am from.(M) I am not here on my own authority, but he who sent me is true.(N) You do not know him, 29 but I know him(O) because I am from him and he sent me.”(P)

30 At this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him,(Q) because his hour had not yet come.(R) 31 Still, many in the crowd believed in him.(S) They said, “When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs(T) than this man?”

32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering such things about him. Then the chief priests and the Pharisees sent temple guards to arrest him.

33 Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time,(U) and then I am going to the one who sent me.(V) 34 You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”(W)

35 The Jews said to one another, “Where does this man intend to go that we cannot find him? Will he go where our people live scattered(X) among the Greeks,(Y) and teach the Greeks? 36 What did he mean when he said, ‘You will look for me, but you will not find me,’ and ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”(Z)

19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.

22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man.

23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?

26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?

27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.

34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.

35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?

36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
