The Unbelief of Jesus’ Brothers
7 After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He did not wish[a] to go about in Judea because the Jews were looking for an opportunity to kill him. 2 Now the Jewish festival of Booths[b] was near. 3 So his brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea so that your disciples also may see the works you are doing; 4 for no one who wants[c] to be widely known acts in secret. If you do these things, show yourself to the world.” 5 (For not even his brothers believed in him.) 6 Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil. 8 Go to the festival yourselves. I am not[d] going to this festival, for my time has not yet fully come.” 9 After saying this, he remained in Galilee.

10 But after his brothers had gone to the festival, then he also went, not publicly but as it were[e] in secret. 11 The Jews were looking for him at the festival and saying, “Where is he?” 12 And there was considerable complaining about him among the crowds. While some were saying, “He is a good man,” others were saying, “No, he is deceiving the crowd.” 13 Yet no one would speak openly about him for fear of the Jews.

7 (A)Dopo queste cose, Gesù se ne andava per la Galilea, non volendo fare altrettanto in Giudea perché i Giudei cercavano di ucciderlo.
2 Or la festa dei Giudei, detta delle Capanne, era vicina. 3 Perciò i suoi fratelli gli dissero: «Parti di qua e va’ in Giudea, affinché anche i tuoi discepoli vedano le opere che tu fai. 4 Poiché nessuno agisce in segreto quando cerca di essere riconosciuto pubblicamente. Se tu fai queste cose, manifèstati al mondo». 5 Poiché neppure i suoi fratelli credevano in lui. 6 Gesù quindi disse loro: «Il mio tempo non è ancora venuto; il vostro tempo, invece, è sempre pronto. 7 Il mondo non può odiare voi; ma odia me, perché io testimonio di lui che le sue opere sono malvagie. 8 Salite voi alla festa[a]; io non salgo [ancora] a questa festa, perché il mio tempo non è ancora compiuto». 9 Dette [loro] queste cose, rimase in Galilea.

7 Und danach zog Jesus in Galiläa umher; denn er wollte nicht in Judäa umherziehen, weil die Juden ihn zu töten suchten.
2 Es war aber das Laubhüttenfest der Juden nahe.
3 Da sprachen seine Brüder zu ihm: Brich doch auf von hier und zieh nach Judäa, damit auch deine Jünger die Werke sehen können, die du tust!
4 Denn niemand tut etwas im Verborgenen und sucht zugleich öffentlich bekannt zu sein. Wenn du diese Dinge tust, so offenbare dich der Welt!
5 Denn auch seine Brüder glaubten nicht an ihn.
6 Da spricht Jesus zu ihnen: Meine Zeit[a] ist noch nicht da; aber eure Zeit ist immer bereit.
7 Die Welt kann euch nicht hassen, mich aber hasst sie; denn ich bezeuge von ihr, dass ihre Werke böse sind.
8 Geht ihr hinauf zu diesem Fest; ich gehe noch nicht zu diesem Fest hinauf, denn meine Zeit ist noch nicht erfüllt.
9 Und als er dies zu ihnen gesagt hatte, blieb er in Galiläa.

10 Nachdem aber seine Brüder hinaufgegangen waren, ging auch er hinauf zum Fest, nicht öffentlich, sondern wie im Verborgenen.
11 Da suchten ihn die Juden während des Festes und sprachen: Wo ist er?
12 Und es gab viel Gemurmel seinetwegen unter der Volksmenge. Etliche sagten: Er ist gut!, andere aber sprachen: Nein, sondern er verführt die Leute!
13 Doch redete niemand freimütig über ihn, aus Furcht vor den Juden.

7 Jézus ezután Galilea tartományában járt. Nem akart Júdeában maradni, mert a vallási vezetők meg akarták ölni. 2 Közel volt a Sátoros ünnep, a zsidók ünnepe, 3 ezért testvérei ezt mondták Jézusnak: „Jobb lenne, ha felmennél Júdeába, az ünnepre, hadd lássák a tanítványaid, amit teszel! 4 Ha valaki népszerű akar lenni, az ne rejtőzzön el a nyilvánosság elől! Mutasd meg magad az egész világnak, hadd lássa mindenki a csodáidat!” 5 Ezt azért mondták a testvérei, mert még ők sem hittek benne.
6 Jézus így felelt: „Az én időm még nem jött el, de számotokra minden idő alkalmas. 7 Titeket nem gyűlölhetnek az emberek, de engem gyűlölnek, mert rájuk bizonyítom a gonosz tetteiket. 8 Ti csak menjetek fel az ünnepre, én még nem megyek fel, mert nincs itt az ideje.” 9 Ezután Jézus még Galileában maradt, 10 a testvérei pedig elindultak Jeruzsálembe, az ünnepre.
Valamivel később azonban Jézus is elindult, de titokban, mert nem akarta, hogy felismerjék. 11 A júdeaiak keresték Jézust az ünnepek alatt, és egymást kérdezgették: „Hol lehet az az ember?”
12 Az ünnepre összegyűlt tömegben sokan Jézusról beszéltek és vitatkoztak, de csak egymás között. Voltak, akik azt mondták róla: „Jó ember.”
Mások meg azt: „Nem, dehogy is jó, hiszen félrevezeti az embereket.” 13 De nyíltan senkisem mert róla beszélni, mert féltek a vallási vezetőktől.
