^5 (A)Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to ^(B)Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?”

¹² Now ^(A)the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, ^(B)“Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.” ¹³ But he said to them, ^(C)“You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than ^(D)five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.”

^2 (A)“I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. ³ And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.” ⁴ And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?”

³³ And the disciples said to him, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?”

¹⁴ When he went ashore he ^(A)saw a great crowd, and ^(B)he had compassion on them and healed their sick. ¹⁵ Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; ^(C)send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”
