3 In the which lay a great multitude of sick folk, of blind, halt, and withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an Angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first, after the stirring of the water, stepped in, was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5 And a certain man was there, which had been diseased eight and thirty years.

3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. [4] [a] 5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

- John 5:4 Some manuscripts include here, wholly or in part, paralyzed—and they waited for the moving of the waters. 4 From time to time an angel of the Lord would come down and stir up the waters. The first one into the pool after each such disturbance would be cured of whatever disease they had.
