18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. 19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. 20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. 21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. 22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: 23 that all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Jesus’ Equality with God

18 For this reason therefore (A)the Jews (B)were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, (C)making Himself equal with God.

19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (D)the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever [a]the Father does, these things the Son also does in the same way. 20 (E)For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him (F)greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and (G)gives them life, so (H)the Son also gives life to whom He wishes. 22 For not even the Father judges anyone, but (I)He has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. (J)The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who hears My word, and (K)believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and (L)does not come into judgment, but has (M)passed out of death into life.

Jesus Is Equal with God

18 This was why the Jews (A)were seeking all the more to kill him, (B)because not only was he (C)breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God (D)his own Father, (E)making himself equal with God.

The Authority of the Son

19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, (F)the Son (G)can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father[a] does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For (H)the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And (I)greater works than these will he show him, so that (J)you may marvel. 21 For as the Father (K)raises the dead and (L)gives them life, so (M)also the Son gives life (N)to whom he will. 22 (O)For the Father judges no one, but (P)has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they (Q)honor the Father. (R)Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, (S)whoever hears my word and (T)believes him who sent me has eternal life. He (U)does not come into judgment, but (V)has passed from death to life.
