This man came to Jesus[a] (A)by night and said to him, (B)“Rabbi, (C)we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do (D)unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is (E)born (F)again[b] he cannot (G)see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born (H)of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. (I)That which is born of the flesh is (J)flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.[c] (K)Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You[d] must be born (L)again.’ (M)The wind[e] blows (N)where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Nicodemus said to him, (O)“How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel (P)and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, (Q)we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but (R)you[f] do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 (S)No one has (T)ascended into heaven except (U)he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.[g] 14 And (V)as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man (W)be lifted up,

He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi,(A) we know(B) that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs(C) you are doing if God were not with him.”(D)

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a](E)

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.(F) Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit.(G) You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d](H)

“How can this be?”(I) Nicodemus asked.

10 “You are Israel’s teacher,”(J) said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know,(K) and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony.(L) 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven(M) except the one who came from heaven(N)—the Son of Man.[e](O) 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness,(P) so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[f](Q)

The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
