John 21:18-22

Our Times Are in His Hand

¹⁸Truly, truly I tell you, when you were younger, you used to put on your belt and walk wherever you wanted; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else will put your belt on you, and bring you where you do not want to go.” ¹⁹Now He said this, ^(A)indicating by ^(B)what kind of death he would glorify God. And when He had said this, He *said to him, “^(C)Follow Me!”

²⁰Peter turned around and *saw the ^(D)disciple whom Jesus loved following them—the one who also had ^(E)leaned back on His chest at the supper and said, “Lord, who is the one who is betraying You?” ²¹So Peter, upon seeing him, *said to Jesus, “Lord, and what about this man?” ²²Jesus *said to him, “If I want him to remain ^(F)until I come, what is that to you? You ^(G)follow Me!”

¹⁸Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” ¹⁹Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death^(A) by which Peter would glorify God.^(B) Then he said to him, “Follow me!”^(C)

²⁰Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved^(D) was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”)^(E) ²¹When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?”

²²Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return,^(F) what is that to you? You must follow me.”^(G)
