Jesus Appears to His Disciples

19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders,(A) Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace(B) be with you!”(C) 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side.(D) The disciples were overjoyed(E) when they saw the Lord.

21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you!(F) As the Father has sent me,(G) I am sending you.”(H) 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.(I) 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”(J)

19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.(A) Because I live, you also will live.(B) 20 On that day(C) you will realize that I am in my Father,(D) and you are in me, and I am in you.(E) 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.(F) The one who loves me will be loved by my Father,(G) and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

22 Then Judas(H) (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”(I)

23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.(J) My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.(K) 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.(L)
