John 19:8-10

8 When Pilate heard what they said,[a] he was more afraid than ever,[b] 9 and he went back into the governor’s residence[c] and said to Jesus, “Where do you come from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. 10 So Pilate said,[d] “Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know I have the authority[e] to release you, and to crucify you?”[f]

8 When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, 9 and he went back inside the palace.(A) “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer.(B) 10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”
