The New Commandment

Beloved, I am writing you (A)no new commandment, but (B)an old commandment (C)that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is (D)a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because[a] (E)the darkness is passing away and (F)the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light and (G)hates his brother is still in darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him[b] there is no (H)cause for stumbling.

God Is Love

Beloved, (A)let us love one another, for love is from God, and (B)whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (C)Anyone who does not love does not know God, because (D)God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that (E)God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, (F)not that we have loved God (G)but that he loved us and sent his Son to be (H)the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

God’s Love and Ours

Dear friends, let us love one another,(A) for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God(B) and knows God.(C) Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.(D) This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son(E) into the world that we might live through him.(F) 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us(G) and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.(H) 11 Dear friends,(I) since God so loved us,(J) we also ought to love one another.(K)

16 By this we know love, that (D)he laid down his life for us, and (E)we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But (F)if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet (G)closes his heart against him, (H)how does God's love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not (I)love in word or talk but in deed and (J)in truth.
