^20 (A)So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. ²¹ Martha said to ^(B)Jesus, “Lord, ^(C)if you had been here, my brother would not have died. ²² But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, ^(D)God will give you.” ²³ Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” ^24 (E)Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in ^(F)the resurrection on the last day.” ²⁵ Jesus said to her, ^(G)“I am the resurrection and ^(H)the life.^[a] Whoever believes in me, ^(I)though he die, ^(J)yet shall he live, ²⁶ and everyone who lives and believes in me ^(K)shall never die. Do you believe this?” ²⁷ She said to him, “Yes, Lord; ^(L)I believe that ^(M)you are the Christ, the Son of God, ^(N)who is coming into the world.”

¹⁹ If in Christ we have hope^[a] in this life only, ^(A)we are of all people most to be pitied.

²⁰ But in fact ^(B)Christ has been raised from the dead, ^(C)the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. ²¹ For as ^(D)by a man came death, ^(E)by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. ²² For ^(F)as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
