The true light that shines on all people
    was coming into the world.
10 The light was in the world,
    and the world came into being through the light,
        but the world didn’t recognize the light.
11 The light came to his own people,
    and his own people didn’t welcome him.
12 But those who did welcome him,
        those who believed in his name,
    he authorized to become God’s children,
13         born not from blood
        nor from human desire or passion,
        but born from God.
14 The Word became flesh
    and made his home among us.
We have seen his glory,
    glory like that of a father’s only son,
        full of grace and truth.

The true light(A) that gives light to everyone(B) was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him,(C) the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.(D) 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed(E) in his name,(F) he gave the right to become children of God(G) 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.(H)

14 The Word became flesh(I) and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,(J) the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace(K) and truth.(L)
