⁴⁶ Nathanael said to him, ^(A)“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, ^(B)an Israelite indeed, ^(C)in whom there is no deceit!” ⁴⁸ Nathanael said to him, “How ^(D)do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, ^(E)“Rabbi, ^(F)you are the Son of God! You are the ^(G)King of Israel!” ⁵⁰ Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” ⁵¹ And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you,^[a] you will see ^(H)heaven opened, and ^(I)the angels of God ascending and descending on ^(J)the Son of Man.”

³⁹ Many Samaritans ^(A)from that town believed in him ^(B)because of ^(C)the woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” ⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. ⁴¹ And many more believed ^(D)because of his word. ⁴² They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, ^(E)and we know that this is indeed ^(F)the Savior ^(G)of the world.”
