30 När Jesus hade smakat på det ropade han: Det är fullbordat. Därefter böjde han ner huvudet och dog.

31 De judiska ledarna ville inte att kropparna skulle hänga kvar på korset till nästa dag, som var sabbatsdag (och en mycket speciell sådan, för det var påsk). De bad därför Pilatus att ge order om att männens ben skulle slås sönder så att kropparna kunde tas ner.

32 Soldaterna kom då och slog sönder benen på de båda män som hade korsfästs tillsammans med Jesus.

30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”(A) With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

31 Now it was the day of Preparation,(B) and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses(C) during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other.(D)

31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
