15 Jag är den sanna vinstocken och min Fader är trädgårdsmästaren. 2 Han skär bort varje gren i mig som inte bär frukt. Och han beskär de grenar som bär frukt så att de kan bära ännu mer frukt. 3 Ni har redan blivit beskurna genom det ord jag har förkunnat för er. 4 Bli kvar i mig så blir jag kvar i er! En gren kan inte bära frukt av sig själv om den inte sitter kvar på vinstocken. På samma sätt kan inte heller ni bära frukt om ni inte är kvar i mig.
5 Jag är vinstocken och ni är grenarna. Om någon är kvar i mig och jag i honom bär han mycket frukt, men utan mig kan ni inget göra. 6 Den som inte är kvar i mig blir bortkastad som en gren och vissnar. De ska samlas ihop och kastas i elden och brännas upp. 7 Men om ni är kvar i mig och mitt ord är kvar i er, så be om vad ni vill och ni ska få det. 8 Därigenom blir min Fader förhärligad att ni bär mycket frukt och blir mina lärjungar.
9 Så som Fadern har älskat mig har jag älskat er. Bli kvar i min kärlek! 10 Om ni lyder mina bud är ni kvar i min kärlek, på samma sätt som jag har hållit min Faders bud och är kvar i hans kärlek. 11 Detta har jag sagt till er för att min glädje ska vara i er så att er glädje blir fullkomlig. 12 Och detta är mitt bud: att ni ska älska varandra på samma sätt som jag har älskat er. 13 Det finns ingen större kärlek än att man offrar sitt liv för sina vänner. 14 Ni är mina vänner om ni gör det jag befaller er. 15 Jag kallar er inte längre tjänare för en tjänare vet inte vad hans herre gör. Jag kallar er vänner för jag har låtit er veta allt som jag har hört av min Fader. 16 Ni valde inte mig utan jag har valt ut er till att gå ut och bära frukt som består. Då ska Fadern ge er vad ni än ber om i mitt namn. 17 Detta är vad jag befaller er: att ni ska älska varandra!
Jesus varnar för hat och förföljelse
18 När världen hatar er, kom då ihåg att den hatade mig före er. 19 Om ni tillhörde världen skulle världen älska er som sina egna. Men nu tillhör ni inte världen utan jag har valt ut er ur världen och därför hatar världen er. 20 Kom ihåg vad jag sa till er: En tjänare står inte över sin herre. Om de har förföljt mig, kommer de också att förfölja er. Men har de hållit sig till mitt ord, kommer de också att hålla sig till det ni säger. 21 De behandlar er så för mitt namns skull därför att de inte känner honom som har sänt mig.
22 Om jag aldrig hade kommit och talat till dem, skulle de ha varit utan synd. Men nu har de ingen ursäkt för sin synd. 23 Den som hatar mig hatar också min Fader. 24 Om jag inte hade utfört sådana gärningar ibland dem som ingen annan har gjort, skulle de ha varit utan synd. Men nu har de sett dem och hatat både mig och min Fader. 25 Och genom detta går det i uppfyllelse som står skrivet i deras lag[a]: ’De har hatat mig utan anledning.’[b]
26 Men när Hjälparen kommer som jag ska sända er från Fadern, sanningens Ande, som kommer från Fadern, ska han vittna om mig. 27 Också ni ska vittna för ni har varit med mig från början.

15 Ako (A)ang tunay na puno ng ubas, at ang aking Ama ang magsasaka.
2 Ang bawa't sanga (B)na sa akin ay hindi nagbubunga, ay inaalis niya: at ang bawa't sanga na nagbubunga ay nililinis niya, upang lalong magbunga.
3 Kayo'y (C)malilinis na sa pamamagitan ng salita na sa inyo'y aking sinalita.
4 (D)Kayo'y manatili sa akin, at ako'y sa inyo. Gaya ng sanga na di makapagbunga sa kaniyang sarili maliban na nakakabit sa puno; gayon din naman kayo, maliban na kayo'y manatili sa akin.
5 Ako ang puno ng ubas, (E)kayo ang mga sanga: Ang nananatili sa akin, at ako'y sa kaniya, ay siyang nagbubunga ng marami: sapagka't kung kayo'y hiwalay sa akin ay wala kayong magagawa.
6 Kung ang sinoman ay hindi manatili sa akin, ay siya'y matatapong katulad ng sanga, at matutuyo; at mga titipunin at (F)mga ihahagis sa apoy, at mangasusunog.
7 Kung kayo'y magsipanatili sa akin, at ang mga salita ko'y magsipanatili sa inyo, ay (G)hingin ninyo ang anomang inyong ibigin, at gagawin sa inyo.
8 Sa ganito'y lumuluwalhati ang aking Ama, na kayo'y magsipagbunga ng marami; at gayon kayo'y magiging aking mga alagad.
9 Kung paanong inibig ako ng Ama, ay gayon din naman iniibig ko kayo: magsipanatili kayo sa aking pagibig.
10 Kung tinutupad ninyo ang aking mga utos, ay magsisipanahan kayo sa aking pagibig; gaya ng aking pagtupad sa mga utos ng aking Ama, at ako'y nananatili sa kaniyang pagibig.
11 Ang mga bagay na ito ay sinalita ko sa inyo, upang ang (H)aking kagalakan ay mapasa inyo, at upang ang (I)inyong kagalakan ay malubos.
12 Ito ang aking utos, (J)na kayo'y mangagibigan sa isa't isa, na gaya ng pagibig ko sa inyo.
13 Walang may lalong dakilang (K)pagibig kay sa rito, na ibigay ng isang tao ang kaniyang buhay dahil sa kaniyang mga kaibigan.
14 Kayo'y aking mga kaibigan, kung gawin ninyo ang mga bagay na aking iniuutos sa inyo.
15 Hindi ko na kayo tatawaging mga alipin; sapagka't hindi nalalaman ng alipin kung ano ang ginagawa ng kaniyang panginoon: nguni't tinatawag ko kayong mga kaibigan; (L)sapagka't ang lahat ng mga bagay na narinig ko sa aking Ama ay mga ipinakilala ko sa inyo.
16 Ako'y hindi ninyo hinirang, nguni't kayo'y (M)hinirang ko, at aking kayong inihalal, upang kayo'y magsiyaon at magsipagbunga, at upang manatili ang inyong bunga: upang ang (N)anomang inyong hingin sa Ama sa aking pangalan, ay maibigay niya sa inyo.
17 Ang mga bagay na ito ay iniuutos ko sa inyo, upang kayo'y mangagibigan sa isa't isa.
18 Kung kayo'y kinapopootan ng sanglibutan, ay inyong (O)talastas na ako muna ang kinapootan bago kayo.
19 Kung kayo'y taga sanglibutan, ay (P)iibigin ng sanglibutan ang kaniyang sarili: nguni't (Q)sapagka't kayo'y hindi taga sanglibutan, kundi kayo'y hinirang ko sa sanglibutan, kaya napopoot sa inyo ang sanglibutan.
20 Alalahanin ninyo ang salitang sa inyo'y aking sinabi, (R)Ang alipin ay hindi dakila kay sa kaniyang panginoon. Kung ako'y kanilang pinagusig, kayo man ay kanilang paguusigin din; kung tinupad nila ang aking salita, ang inyo man ay tutuparin din.
21 Datapuwa't ang lahat ng mga bagay na ito ay gagawin nila sa inyo (S)dahil sa aking pangalan, (T)sapagka't hindi nila nakikilala ang sa akin ay nagsugo.
22 Kung hindi sana ako naparito (U)at nagsalita sa kanila, ay hindi sila magkakaroon ng kasalanan: datapuwa't ngayo'y wala na silang madadahilan sa kanilang kasalanan.
23 Ang napopoot sa akin ay napopoot din naman sa aking Ama.
24 Kung ako sana'y hindi gumawa sa gitna nila (V)ng mga gawang hindi ginawa ng sinomang iba, ay hindi sana sila nangagkaroon ng kasalanan: datapuwa't ngayon ay kanilang nangakita at kinapootan nila ako at ang aking Ama.
25 Nguni't nangyari ito, upang matupad ang salitang nasusulat sa (W)kanilang kautusan, (X)Ako'y kinapootan nila na walang kadahilanan.
26 Datapuwa't pagparito (Y)ng Mangaaliw, na aking susuguin sa inyo mula sa Ama, sa makatuwid baga'y ang Espiritu ng katotohanan, na nagbubuhat sa Ama, ay siyang magpapatotoo sa akin:
27 At kayo naman ay magpapatotoo, sapagka't kayo'y nangakasama ko (Z)buhat pa nang una.

The Vine and the Branches
15 “I am(A) the true vine,(B) and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,(C) while every branch that does bear fruit(D) he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.(E) 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you.(F) No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;(G) apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.(H) 7 If you remain in me(I) and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.(J) 8 This is to my Father’s glory,(K) that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.(L)
9 “As the Father has loved me,(M) so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands,(N) you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.(O) 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.(P) 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.(Q) 14 You are my friends(R) if you do what I command.(S) 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.(T) 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you(U) so that you might go and bear fruit(V)—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.(W) 17 This is my command: Love each other.(X)
The World Hates the Disciples
18 “If the world hates you,(Y) keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you(Z) out of the world. That is why the world hates you.(AA) 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’[b](AB) If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.(AC) If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name,(AD) for they do not know the one who sent me.(AE) 22 If I had not come and spoken to them,(AF) they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.(AG) 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did,(AH) they would not be guilty of sin.(AI) As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law:(AJ) ‘They hated me without reason.’[c](AK)
The Work of the Holy Spirit
26 “When the Advocate(AL) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father(AM)—the Spirit of truth(AN) who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.(AO) 27 And you also must testify,(AP) for you have been with me from the beginning.(AQ)

The True Vine
15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 (A)Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He [a]takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear (B)more fruit. 3 (C)You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 (D)Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. Love and Joy Perfected

The World’s Hatred

The Coming Rejection
