Joel 2:28-32

The Day of the Lord

²⁸“And afterward,
    I will pour out my Spirit^(A) on all people.^(B)
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,^(C)
    your old men will dream dreams,^(D)
    your young men will see visions.
²⁹Even on my servants,^(E) both men and women,
    I will pour out my Spirit in those days.^(F)
³⁰I will show wonders in the heavens^(G)
    and on the earth,^(H)
    blood and fire and billows of smoke.
³¹The sun will be turned to darkness^(I)
    and the moon to blood
    before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.^(J)
³²And everyone who calls
    on the name of the Lord^(K) will be saved;^(L)
for on Mount Zion^(M) and in Jerusalem
    there will be deliverance,^(N)
    as the Lord has said,
even among the survivors^(O)
    whom the Lord calls.^[a]^(P)

³They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. ⁴All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit^(A) and began to speak in other tongues^[a]^(B) as the Spirit enabled them.

⁵Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing^(C) Jews from every nation under heaven. ⁶When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. ⁷Utterly amazed,^(D) they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?^(E) ⁸Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? ⁹Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia,^(F) Pontus^(G) and Asia,^[b]^(H) ¹⁰Phrygia^(I) and Pamphylia,^(J) Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene;^(K) visitors from Rome ¹¹(both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” ¹²Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
