¹⁵ Alas for that^(A) day!
    For the day of the Lord^(B) is near;
    it will come like destruction from the Almighty.^[a](C)

⁶ Wail,^(A) for the day^(B) of the Lord is near;
    it will come like destruction^(C) from the Almighty.^[a](D)
7 Because of this, all hands will go limp,^(E)
    every heart will melt with fear.^(F)
8 Terror^(G) will seize them,
    pain and anguish will grip^(H) them;
    they will writhe like a woman in labor.^(I)
They will look aghast at each other,
    their faces aflame.^(J)

⁹ See, the day^(K) of the Lord is coming
    —a cruel^(L) day, with wrath^(M) and fierce anger^(N)—
to make the land desolate
    and destroy the sinners within it.

¹⁴ The great day of the Lord^(A) is near^(B)—
    near and coming quickly.
The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter;
    the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry.
¹⁵ That day will be a day of wrath—
    a day of distress and anguish,
        a day of trouble and ruin,
    a day of darkness^(C) and gloom,
        a day of clouds and blackness^(D)—
¹⁶     a day of trumpet and battle cry^(E)
against the fortified cities
    and against the corner towers.^(F)

¹⁷ “I will bring such distress^(G) on all people
    that they will grope about like those who are blind,^(H)
    because they have sinned against the Lord.
Their blood will be poured out^(I) like dust
    and their entrails like dung.^(J)
18 Neither their silver nor their gold
    will be able to save them
    on the day of the Lord’s wrath.”^(K)

In the fire of his jealousy^(L)
    the whole earth will be consumed,^(M)
for he will make a sudden end
    of all who live on the earth.^(N)

“‘The end!^(A) The end has come
    upon the four corners^(B) of the land!
³ The end is now upon you,
    and I will unleash my anger against you.
I will judge you according to your conduct^(C)
    and repay you for all your detestable practices.^(D)
4 I will not look on you with pity;^(E)
    I will not spare you.
I will surely repay you for your conduct
    and for the detestable practices among you.

“‘Disaster!^(G) Unheard-of^[a] disaster!
    See, it comes!
⁶ The end^(H) has come!
    The end has come!
It has roused itself against you.
    See, it comes!
⁷ Doom has come upon you,
    upon you who dwell in the land.
The time has come! The day^(I) is near!^(J)
    There is panic, not joy, on the mountains.
⁸ I am about to pour out my wrath^(K) on you
    and spend my anger against you.
I will judge you according to your conduct
    and repay you for all your detestable practices.^(L)
9 I will not look on you with pity;
    I will not spare you.^(M)
I will repay you for your conduct
    and for the detestable practices among you.^(N)

¹⁰ “‘See, the day!
    See, it comes!
Doom has burst forth,
    the rod^(P) has budded,
    arrogance has blossomed!
¹¹ Violence^(Q) has arisen,^[b]
    a rod to punish the wicked.
None of the people will be left,
    none of that crowd—
none of their wealth,
    nothing of value.^(R)
12 The time has come!
    The day has arrived!
Let not the buyer^(S) rejoice
    nor the seller grieve,
    for my wrath is on the whole crowd.^(T)

¹¹ The Lord^(A) thunders^(B)
    at the head of his army;^(C)
his forces are beyond number,
    and mighty is the army that obeys his command.
The day of the Lord is great;^(D)
    it is dreadful.
    Who can endure it?^(E)

⁷ How awful that day^(A) will be!
    No other will be like it.
It will be a time of trouble^(B) for Jacob,
    but he will be saved^(C) out of it.
