¹⁵ Alas for the day!
For the day of the Lord is near,
    and as destruction from the Almighty^[a] it comes.^(A)

⁶ Wail, for the day of the Lord is near;
    it will come like destruction from the Almighty!^[a](A)
7 Therefore all hands will be feeble,
    and every human heart will melt,^(B)
8     and they will be terrified.
Pangs and agony will seize them;
    they will be in anguish like a woman in labor.
They will look aghast at one another;
    their faces will be aflame.^(C)
9 See, the day of the Lord is coming,
    cruel, with wrath and fierce anger,
to make the earth a desolation
    and to destroy its sinners from it.^(D)

¹⁷ I will bring such distress upon people
    that they shall walk like the blind;
    because they have sinned against the Lord,
their blood shall be poured out like dust
    and their flesh like dung.^(C)
18 Neither their silver nor their gold
    will be able to save them
    on the day of the Lord’s wrath;
in the fire of his passion
    the whole earth shall be consumed,
for a full, a terrible end
    he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.^(D)

An end! The end has come
    upon the four corners of the land.^(A)
3 Now the end is upon you;
    I will let loose my anger upon you;
I will judge you according to your ways;
    I will punish you for all your abominations.
⁴ My eye will not spare you; I will have no pity.
    I will punish you for your ways
    while your abominations are among you.

Disaster after disaster! See, it comes.^(C)
6     An end has come; the end has come.
It has awakened against you; see, it comes!
⁷ Your doom^[a] has come to you,
    O inhabitant of the land.
The time has come; the day is near—
    of tumult, not of reveling on the mountains.^(D)
8 Soon now I will pour out my wrath upon you;
    I will spend my anger against you.
I will judge you according to your ways
    and punish you for all your abominations.^(E)
9 My eye will not spare; I will have no pity.
    I will punish you according to your ways
    while your abominations are among you.

¹⁰ See, the day! See, it comes!
    Your doom^[b] has gone out.
The rod has blossomed; pride has budded.
¹¹     Violence has grown into a rod of wickedness.
None of them shall remain,
    not their abundance, not their wealth;
    no preeminence among them.^[c](F)
12 The time has come; the day draws near;
    let not the buyer rejoice nor the seller mourn,
    for wrath is upon all their multitude.
