Job’s reply:

“Yes, I know all that. You’re not telling me anything new. But how can a man be truly good in the eyes of God? If God decides to argue with him, can a man answer even one question of a thousand he asks? For God is so wise and so mighty. Who has ever opposed him successfully?

“Suddenly he moves the mountains, overturning them in his anger. He shakes the earth to its foundations. The sun won’t rise, the stars won’t shine, if he commands it so! Only he has stretched the heavens out and stalked along the seas. He made the Bear, Orion and the Pleiades, and the constellations of the southern Zodiac.

10 “He does incredible miracles, too many to count. 11 He passes by, invisible; he moves along, but I don’t see him go. 12 When he sends death to snatch a man away,[a] who can stop him? Who dares to ask him, ‘What are you doing?’

13 “And God does not abate his anger. The pride of man[b] collapses before him. 14 And who am I that I should try to argue with Almighty God, or even reason with him? 15 Even if I were sinless, I wouldn’t say a word. I would only plead for mercy. 16 And even if my prayers were answered, I could scarce believe that he had heard my cry. 17 For he is the one who destroys, and multiplies my wounds without a cause. 18 He will not let me breathe, but fills me with bitter sorrows. 19 He alone is strong and just.

20 “But I? Am I righteous? My own mouth says no. Even if I were perfect, God would prove me wicked. 21 And even if I am utterly innocent, I dare not think of it. I despise what I am. 22 Innocent or evil, it is all the same to him, for he destroys both kinds. 23 He will laugh when calamity crushes the innocent. 24 The whole earth is in the hands of the wicked. God blinds the eyes of the judges and lets them be unfair. If not he, then who?

25 “My life passes swiftly away, filled with tragedy. 26 My years disappear like swift ships, like the eagle that swoops upon its prey.

27 “If I decided to forget my complaints against God, to end my sadness and be cheerful, 28 then he would pour even greater sorrows upon me. For I know that you will not hold me innocent, O God, 29 but will condemn me. So what’s the use of trying? 30 Even if I were to wash myself with purest water and cleanse my hands with lye to make them utterly clean, 31 even so you would plunge me into the ditch and mud; and even my clothing would be less filthy than you consider me to be!

32-33 “And I cannot defend myself, for you are no mere man as I am. If you were, then we could discuss it fairly, but there is no umpire between us, no middle man, no mediator to bring us together. 34 Oh, let him stop beating me, so that I need no longer live in terror of his punishment. 35 Then I could speak without fear to him and tell him boldly that I am not guilty.

Job Replies There Is No Adjudicator

Then Job answered and said,

“In truth I know that this is so;
But how can a (A)man be in the right [a]before God?
If one desired to (B)contend with Him,
He could not answer Him once in a thousand times.
(C)Wise in heart and (D)mighty in power,
Who has (E)stiffened his neck against Him and been at peace?
(F)God is the One who removes the mountains, they know not how,
When He overturns them in His anger;
The One who (G)shakes the earth out of its place,
And its (H)pillars tremble;
The One who says for the (I)sun [b]not to shine,
And sets a seal upon the stars;
Who alone (J)stretches out the heavens,
And [c](K)tramples down the waves of the sea;
Who makes the (L)Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades,
And the (M)chambers of the south;
10 Who (N)does great things, unsearchable,
And wondrous works, innumerable.
11 Were He to sweep by me, (O)I would not see Him;
Were He to move past me, I would not perceive Him.
12 Were He to snatch away, who could (P)turn Him back?
Who could say to Him, ‘(Q)What are You doing?’

13 “God will not turn back His anger;
Beneath Him crouch the helpers of (R)Rahab.
14 How then can (S)I [d]answer Him,
And choose my words [e]before Him?
15 For (T)though I were right, I could not [f]answer;
I would have to (U)plead for the grace of my judge.
16 If I called and He answered me,
I could not believe that He was giving ear to my voice.
17 For He (V)bruises me with a tempest
And multiplies my wounds without cause.
18 He will (W)not allow me to get my breath,
But saturates me with (X)bitterness.
19 If it is a matter of power, (Y)behold, He is the mighty one!
And if it is a matter of justice, who can make [g]Him testify?
20 (Z)Though I am righteous, my mouth will (AA)condemn me;
Though I am blameless, He will declare me perverse.
21 I am (AB)blameless;
I do not know my soul;
I (AC)reject my life.
22 It is all one; therefore I say,
‘He (AD)consumes the blameless and the wicked.’
23 If the scourge puts to death suddenly,
He (AE)mocks the despair of the innocent.
24 The earth (AF)is given into the hand of the wicked;
He (AG)covers the faces of its judges.
If it is not He, then who is it?

25 “Now (AH)my days are swifter than a runner;
They flee away; (AI)they do not see good.
26 They sweep by like (AJ)reed boats,
Like an (AK)eagle that swoops on its food.
27 Though I say, ‘I will forget (AL)my musing,
I will forsake my sad countenance and be cheerful,’
28 I am (AM)afraid of all my pains;
I know that (AN)You will not acquit me.
29 I am accounted (AO)wicked;
Why then should I toil in vain?
30 If I should (AP)wash myself with snow
And cleanse (AQ)my hands with lye,
31 Yet You would plunge me into the pit,
And my own clothes would abhor me.
32 For (AR)He is not a man as I am that (AS)I may answer Him,
That we may go to court for judgment together.
33 There is no (AT)adjudicator between us,
Who may lay his hand upon us both.
34 Let Him (AU)remove His rod from me,
And let not dread of Him terrify me.
35 Then I (AV)would speak and not fear Him;
But I am not like that in myself.

Ayuub

Markaasaa Ayuub u jawaabay oo wuxuu ku yidhi,
Sida runta ah waan ogahay inay sidaas tahay,
Laakiinse sidee baa nin xaq ugu noqon karaa Ilaah hortiisa?
Oo hadduu doonayo inuu la doodo isaga,
Kunkii erayba mid qudha ugama jawaabi karo.
Qalbigiisu waa xigmad miidhan, oo xooggiisuna waa badan yahay;
Bal yaa intuu isaga ka qalafsanaaday barwaaqoobay?
Isagu wuxuu rujiyaa buuraha, oo iyana ma ay yaqaaniin,
Markuu cadhadiisa ku afgembiyo.
Dhulka wuu ka ruxruxaa meeshiisa,
Oo tiirarkiisuna way wada gariiraan.
Wuxuu amraa qorraxda, oo iyana sooma ay baxdo,
Xiddigahana wuu xidhaa.
Isagoo keliya ayaa samooyinka kala bixiya,
Oo wuxuu ku dul socdaa hirarka badda.
Oo wuxuu sameeyey ururrada xiddigaha oo la yidhaahdo Orsada iyo Oriyon iyo Toddobaadyada,
Iyo xiddigaha koonfureed.
10 Wuxuu sameeyaa waxyaalo waaweyn oo aan la baadhi karin,
Oo ah waxyaalo yaab badan oo aan la tirin karin.
11 Wuu i ag maraa, aniguse uma jeedo isaga,
Oo wuu iga gudbaa, aniguse waxba kama ogi.
12 Bal wax buu qabsadaa ee, yaa ka hor joogsan kara?
Oo bal yaa ku odhan doona, War maxaad samaynaysaa?
13 Ilaah cadhadiisa ka soo celin maayo;
Oo kalmeeyayaasha kibirka lahuna isagay hoos foororaan.
14 Haddaba bal anigu sidee baan ugu jawaabi karaa,
Oo aan erayadayda kala doortaa si aan isaga kula hadlo?
15 In kastoo aan xaq ahaan lahaa, weliba uma aanan jawaabeen isaga,
Illowse waxaan iska baryi lahaa Kan i xukumaya.
16 Haddaan baryi lahaa oo uu ii jawaabi lahaa,
Ma aanan rumaysteen xataa inuu codkayga maqlay.
17 Waayo, isagu wuxuu igu jejebiyaa duufaan,
Oo nabrahaygana sababla'aan buu u sii kordhiyaa.
18 Isagu iima oggola inaan neefsado,
Laakiinse qadhaadh buu iga buuxiyaa.
19 Bal haddaan xagga xoogga ka hadalno isagu waa itaal miidhan,
Balse xagga xukunka yaa wakhti ii sheegaya?
20 In kastoo aan xaq ahay, afkayga ayaa i xukumi doona,
In kastoo aan qummanahay, waxaa igu caddaan doonta qalloocnaan.
21 Anigu waan qummanahay, oo nafsaddayda kama fikiro,
Noloshaydana waan quudhsadaa.
22 Kulli waa isku mid, oo sidaas daraaddeed waxaan idhaahdaa,
Isagu wuu wada baabbi'iyaa kan qumman iyo kan sharka ahba.
23 Haddii belaayadu haddiiba wax disho,
Wuu ku majaajiloon doonaa jirrabaadda kuwa aan xaqa qabin.
24 Dhulka waxaa gacanta loo geliyey kan sharka ah;
Oo isna wuxuu indhasaabaa xaakinnadii dhulka.
Bal hadduusan isaga ahayn, haddaba waa ayo?
25 Haddaba cimrigaygu waa ka sii dheereeyaa nin orda,
Wuu iga cararaa, oo wanaagna ma arko.
26 Wuxuu ii dhaafay sida doonniyaha dheereeya,
Iyo sida gorgor raq ku soo deganaya.
27 Haddaan odhan lahaa, Cabatinkayga waan illoobi doonaa,
Oo tiiraanyada jaaha iga saaran waan iska tuuri doonaa, oo waan faraxsanaan doonaa,
28 Waxaan ka baqayaa caloolxumadayda oo dhan,
Waayo, waan ogahay inaadan ii haysanayn sidii mid aan xaq qabin.
29 Kolleyba waa lay xukumayaaye,
Bal maxaan waxtarla'aan u hawshoodaa?
30 Haddaan biyo baraf ah ku maydho,
Oo aan gacmahayga aad iyo aad u nadiifiyo,
31 Adigu waxaad igu dhex tuuri doontaa bohol,
Oo xataa dharkaygu waa i nici doonaa.
32 Waayo, isagu nin ma aha, sidaydoo kale, si aan isaga ugu jawaabo,
Oo aannu labadayaduba xukun u wada galno.
33 Ma jiro nin noo dhexeeya,
Oo labadayadaba gacantiisa na saari kara.
34 Isagu ushiisa ha iga fogeeyo,
Oo cabsidiisuna yaanay i bajin.
35 Markaas waan hadli lahaa, oo isaga kama aanan baqeen;
Waayo, anigu sidaas ma ahi.
