Ang Ikatlong Pagsasalita ni Job
9 Pagkatapos ay sumagot si Job, at sinabi,
2 “Sa(A) katotohanan ay alam kong gayon nga:
Ngunit paano magiging matuwid ang isang tao sa harapan ng Diyos?
3 Kung naisin ng isang tao na sa kanya ay makipagtalo,
siya'y hindi makakasagot sa kanya ni minsan sa isang libo.
4 Siya ay pantas sa puso, at malakas sa kapangyarihan:
Sinong nagmatigas laban sa kanya at nagtagumpay?
5 Na siyang naglilipat ng mga bundok, at hindi nila nababatid,
nang kanyang itaob sila sa kanyang pagkagalit;
6 na siyang umuuga ng lupa mula sa kanyang kinaroroonan,
at ang mga haligi nito ay nanginginig;
7 na siyang nag-uutos sa araw at ito'y hindi sumisikat,
na siyang nagtatakip sa mga bituin;
8 na nag-iisang nagladlad ng kalangitan,
at ang mga alon ng dagat ay tinapakan;
9 na(B) siyang gumawa sa Oso at Orion,
at sa Pleyades, at sa mga silid ng timog;
10 na gumagawa ng mga dakilang bagay na di maunawaan,
at mga kamanghamanghang bagay na di mabilang.
11 Siya'y dumaraan sa tabi ko, at hindi ko siya nakikita.
Siya'y nagpapatuloy ngunit hindi ko siya namamalayan.
12 Siya'y nang-aagaw, sinong makakahadlang sa kanya?
Sinong magsasabi sa kanya, ‘Anong ginagawa mo?’
13 “Hindi iuurong ng Diyos ang kanyang galit;
ang mga katulong ng Rahab[a] ay nakayukod sa ilalim niya.
14 Paano ko ngang masasagot siya,
at mapipili ang aking mga salita laban sa kanya?
15 Bagaman ako'y walang sala, hindi ako makakasagot sa kanya;
kailangang ako'y magmakaawa sa aking hukom.
16 Kung siya'y ipatawag ko at siya'y sumagot sa akin;
gayunma'y hindi ako maniniwala na kanyang dininig ang aking tinig.
17 Sapagkat ako'y dinudurog niya sa pamamagitan ng isang bagyo,
at pinararami ang aking mga sugat nang walang kadahilanan.
18 Hindi niya ako tutulutang makahinga,
sa halip ay pinupuno niya ako ng kapaitan.
19 Kung ito'y tagisan ng lakas, siya ang malakas!
At kung tungkol sa katarungan, sino ang magpapatawag sa kanya?
20 Bagaman ako'y walang sala, hahatulan ako ng sarili kong bibig;
bagaman ako'y walang dungis, patutunayan niya akong masama.
21 Ako'y walang dungis, hindi ko pinapansin ang sarili ko,
kinasusuklaman ko ang buhay ko.
22 Ang lahat ay iisa; kaya't aking sinasabi,
kapwa niya pinupuksa ang masama at ang mabuti.
23 Kapag ang sakuna ay nagdadala ng biglang kamatayan,
tinutuya niya ang kapahamakang dumating sa walang kasalanan.
24 Ang lupa ay ibinigay sa kamay ng masama,
kanyang tinatakpan ang mga mukha ng mga hukom nito;
kung hindi siya iyon, kung gayo'y sino?
25 “Ang mga araw ko ay mas matulin kaysa isang mananakbo,
sila'y tumatakbong palayo, wala silang nakikitang mabuti.
26 Sila'y dumaraang parang matutuling bangkang tambo,
parang agilang dumadagit sa biktima.
27 Kung aking sabihin, ‘Kalilimutan ko ang aking daing,
papawiin ko ang aking malungkot na mukha, at magpapakasaya ako.’
28 Ako'y natatakot sa lahat kong paghihirap,
sapagkat alam kong hindi mo ako ituturing na walang sala.
29 Ako'y mahahatulan;
bakit pa ako magpapakapagod nang walang kabuluhan?
30 Kung ako'y maligo sa niyebe,
at hugasan ko ang aking mga kamay sa lihiya,
31 gayunma'y itutulak mo ako sa hukay,
at kamumuhian ako ng mga sarili kong kasuotan.
32 Sapagkat siya'y hindi tao, na gaya ko, na masasagot ko siya,
na kami'y magkasamang haharap sa paglilitis.
33 Walang hukom sa pagitan namin,
na magpapatong ng kanyang kamay sa aming dalawa.
34 Ilayo nawa niya sa akin ang kanyang tungkod,
at huwag nawa akong sindakin ng kanyang bagsik.
35 Saka ako magsasalita nang walang takot tungkol sa kanya,
sapagkat hindi ako gayon sa aking sarili.

9 Then Job answered and said,
2 I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
3 If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?
5 Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.
6 Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
7 Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
8 Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
9 Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
10 Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
11 Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
12 Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
13 If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
14 How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?
15 Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.
16 If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.
17 For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.
18 He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.
19 If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?
20 If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.
21 Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
22 This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
23 If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?
25 Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
26 They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.
27 If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:
28 I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
29 If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?
30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
31 Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.
32 For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.
33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.
34 Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:
35 Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.

9 Then Job replied:
2 “Indeed, I know that this is true.
But how can mere mortals prove their innocence before God?(A)
3 Though they wished to dispute with him,(B)
they could not answer him one time out of a thousand.(C)
4 His wisdom(D) is profound, his power is vast.(E)
Who has resisted(F) him and come out unscathed?(G)
5 He moves mountains(H) without their knowing it
and overturns them in his anger.(I)
6 He shakes the earth(J) from its place
and makes its pillars tremble.(K)
7 He speaks to the sun and it does not shine;(L)
he seals off the light of the stars.(M)
8 He alone stretches out the heavens(N)
and treads on the waves of the sea.(O)
9 He is the Maker(P) of the Bear[a] and Orion,
the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.(Q)
10 He performs wonders(R) that cannot be fathomed,
miracles that cannot be counted.(S)
11 When he passes me, I cannot see him;
when he goes by, I cannot perceive him.(T)
12 If he snatches away, who can stop him?(U)
Who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?’(V)
13 God does not restrain his anger;(W)
even the cohorts of Rahab(X) cowered at his feet.
14 “How then can I dispute with him?
How can I find words to argue with him?(Y)
15 Though I were innocent, I could not answer him;(Z)
I could only plead(AA) with my Judge(AB) for mercy.(AC)
16 Even if I summoned him and he responded,
I do not believe he would give me a hearing.(AD)
17 He would crush me(AE) with a storm(AF)
and multiply(AG) my wounds for no reason.(AH)
18 He would not let me catch my breath
but would overwhelm me with misery.(AI)
19 If it is a matter of strength, he is mighty!(AJ)
And if it is a matter of justice, who can challenge him[b]?(AK)
20 Even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me;
if I were blameless, it would pronounce me guilty.(AL)
21 “Although I am blameless,(AM)
I have no concern for myself;(AN)
I despise my own life.(AO)
22 It is all the same; that is why I say,
‘He destroys both the blameless and the wicked.’(AP)
23 When a scourge(AQ) brings sudden death,
he mocks the despair of the innocent.(AR)
24 When a land falls into the hands of the wicked,(AS)
he blindfolds its judges.(AT)
If it is not he, then who is it?(AU)
25 “My days are swifter than a runner;(AV)
they fly away without a glimpse of joy.(AW)
26 They skim past(AX) like boats of papyrus,(AY)
like eagles swooping down on their prey.(AZ)
27 If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint,(BA)
I will change my expression, and smile,’
28 I still dread(BB) all my sufferings,
for I know you will not hold me innocent.(BC)
29 Since I am already found guilty,
why should I struggle in vain?(BD)
30 Even if I washed myself with soap(BE)
and my hands(BF) with cleansing powder,(BG)
31 you would plunge me into a slime pit(BH)
so that even my clothes would detest me.(BI)
32 “He is not a mere mortal(BJ) like me that I might answer him,(BK)
that we might confront each other in court.(BL)
33 If only there were someone to mediate between us,(BM)
someone to bring us together,(BN)
34 someone to remove God’s rod from me,(BO)
so that his terror would frighten me no more.(BP)
35 Then I would speak up without fear of him,(BQ)
but as it now stands with me, I cannot.(BR)
