Bildad the Shuhite replies to Job:

“How long will you go on like this, Job, blowing words around like wind? Does God twist justice? If your children sinned against him, and he punished them, and you begged Almighty God for them— if you were pure and good, he would hear your prayer and answer you and bless you with a happy home. And though you started with little, you would end with much.

“Read the history books and see— for we were born but yesterday and know so little; our days here on earth are as transient as shadows. 10 But the wisdom of the past will teach you. The experience of others will speak to you, reminding you that 11-13 those who forget God have no hope. They are like rushes without any mire to grow in; or grass without water to keep it alive. Suddenly it begins to wither, even before it is cut. 14 A man without God is trusting in a spider’s web. Everything he counts on will collapse. 15 If he counts on his home for security, it won’t last. 16 At dawn he seems so strong and virile, like a green plant; his branches spread across the garden. 17 His roots are in the stream, down among the stones. 18 But when he disappears, he isn’t even missed! 19 That is all he can look forward to! And others spring up from the earth to replace him!

20 “But look! God will not cast away a good man, nor prosper evildoers. 21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy. 22 Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame, and the wicked destroyed.”

Bildad Says God Rewards the Good

Then Bildad the Shuhite responded,

“How long will you say these things,
And the (A)words of your mouth be a mighty wind?
Does (B)God pervert justice?
Or does [a]the Almighty pervert what is right?
(C)If your sons sinned against Him,
Then He turned them over to the [b]power of their wrongdoing.
If you will (D)search for God
And implore the compassion of [c]the Almighty,
If you are pure and upright,
Surely now (E)He will stir Himself for you
And restore your righteous [d](F)estate.
Though your beginning was insignificant,
Yet your (G)end will increase greatly.

“Please (H)inquire of past generations,
And consider the things searched out by their fathers.
For we are only of yesterday and know nothing,
Because (I)our days on earth are as a shadow.
10 Will they not teach you and tell you,
And bring forth words from their minds?

11 “Can papyrus grow tall without a marsh?
Can the rushes grow without water?
12 While it is still green and not cut down,
Yet it withers before any other [e]plant.
13 So are the paths of (J)all who forget God;
And the (K)hope of the godless will perish,
14 His confidence is fragile,
And his trust is a (L)spider’s [f]web.
15 He depends on his (M)house, but it does not stand;
He holds on to it, but it does not endure.
16 He (N)flourishes before the sun,
And his (O)shoots spread out over his garden.
17 His roots wrap around a rock pile,
He [g]grasps a house of stones.
18 If he is [h]removed from (P)his place,
Then it will deny him, saying, ‘(Q)I never saw you.’
19 Behold, (R)this is the joy of His way;
And out of the dust others will spring.
20 Behold, (S)God will not reject a person of integrity,
Nor (T)will He [i]help evildoers.
21 He will yet fill (U)your mouth with laughter,
And your lips with joyful shouting.
22 Those who hate you will be (V)clothed with shame,
And the (W)tent of the wicked will no longer exist.”

Bildad

Markaasaa Bildad oo ahaa reer Shuuxii u jawaabay, oo wuxuu ku yidhi,
Ilaa goormaad waxyaalahan ku hadlaysaa?
Oo ilaa goormaa erayada afkaagu ahaanayaan sida dabayl xoog badan?
War ma Ilaah baa garsooridda qalloociya? Mase Ilaaha Qaadirka ah baa caddaaladda qalloociya?
Haddii carruurtaadii ay isaga ku dembaabeen,
Wuxuu iyagii u gacangeliyey xadgudubkoodii.
Haddaad aad u barido Ilaah,
Oo aad baryootankaaga hor dhigto Qaadirka,
Haddaad daahir ahaan lahayd oo aad qummanaan lahayd,
Sida xaqiiqada ah haatan wuu kuu toosi lahaa,
Oo hoyga xaqnimadaadana wuu barwaaqayn lahaa.
Oo in kastoo bilowgaagii yaraa,
Haddana ugudambaystaadu aad bay u weynaan lahayd.
Waan ku baryayaaye bal qarniyadii hore wax weyddii,
Oo bal soo garwaaqso waxyaalihii ay awowayaashood fatasheen,
(Waayo, innagu waxaynu nahay qoonkii shalayto oo qudha, oo waxba garan mayno,
Maxaa yeelay, cimrigeenna aan dhulka joognaa waa sida hoos oo kale.)
10 War sow iyagu wax kuma bari doonaan, oo wax kuuma sheegi doonaan,
Oo sow qalbigooda kaalama hadli doonaan?
11 War miyaa cawdu ka bixi kartaa meel aan dhoobo lahayn?
Cawsduurkuse miyuu bixi karaa biyola'aantood?
12 Intuu weli cagaarka yahay oo aan la gooyn,
Wuu ka hor engegaa dhalatada kale oo dhan.
13 Kuwa Ilaah illooba oo dhan wadiiqooyinkoodu waa sidaas oo kale,
Oo ninkii cibaadalaawe ah rajadiisuna way baabba'daa.
14 Oo kaas kalsoonaantiisu way kala jajabtaa,
Oo aaminaaddiisuna waa sida xuubcaaro oo kale.
15 Wuxuu ku tiirsan doonaa gurigiisa, laakiinse gurigiisu ma taagnaan doono.
Aad buu u xajin doonaa, laakiinse siima uu adkaan doono innaba.
16 Isagu waa ku cagaar qorraxda,
Oo laamihiisa curdanka ahuna waxay ka soo kor baxaan beertiisa.
17 Oo xididdadiisuna waxay isku duuduubaan taallo dhagaxyo ah,
Oo wuxuu fiiriyaa meesha dhagaxyada.
18 Isaga haddii meeshiisa laga baabbi'iyo,
Markaasay inkiri doontaa isaga, oo waxay odhan doontaa, Anigu kumaba arag.
19 Farxadda jidkiisu waa sidaas,
Oo waxaa dhulka ka soo bixi doona kuwa kaleto.
20 Ilaah marnaba xoori maayo nin qumman,
Kuwa sharka falase tiirin maayo.
21 Wuxuu afkaaga ka buuxin doonaa qosol,
Bushimahaagana qaylo farxad leh,
22 Kuwa ku neceb waxay xidhan doonaan ceeb,
Teendhada sharrowyaduna mar dambe siima jiri doonto.
