Bildad Speaks
8 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
2 How long will you go on saying these things?
Your words(A) are a blast of wind.(B)
3 Does God pervert justice?(C)
Does the Almighty pervert what is right?(D)
4 Since your children sinned against him,
he gave them over to their rebellion.
5 But if you earnestly seek(E) God
and ask the Almighty for mercy,(F)
6 if you are pure and upright,
then he will move even now on your behalf
and restore the home where your righteousness dwells.(G)
7 Then, even if your beginnings were modest,
your final days will be full of prosperity.(H)
8 For ask the previous generation,
and pay attention to what their ancestors discovered,(I)
9 since we were born only yesterday and know nothing.
Our days on earth are but a shadow.(J)
10 Will they not teach you and tell you
and speak from their understanding?
11 Does papyrus grow where there is no marsh?
Do reeds flourish without water?
12 While still uncut shoots,
they would dry up quicker than any other plant.
13 Such is the destiny[a] of all who forget God;
the hope of the godless(K) will perish.
14 His source of confidence is fragile;[b]
what he trusts in is a spider’s web.(L)
15 He leans on his web, but it doesn’t stand firm.
He grabs it, but it does not hold up.
16 He is a well-watered plant in the sunshine;
his shoots spread out over his garden.
17 His roots are intertwined around a pile of rocks.
He looks for a home among the stones.
18 If he is uprooted[c] from his place,
it will deny knowing him, saying, “I never saw you.”(M)
19 Surely this is the joy of his way of life;
yet others will sprout from the dust.
20 Look, God does not reject a person of integrity,
and he will not support[d] evildoers.(N)

8 Then Bildad the Shuhite(A) replied:
2 “How long will you say such things?(B)
Your words are a blustering wind.(C)
3 Does God pervert justice?(D)
Does the Almighty pervert what is right?(E)
4 When your children sinned against him,
he gave them over to the penalty of their sin.(F)
5 But if you will seek God earnestly
and plead(G) with the Almighty,(H)
6 if you are pure and upright,
even now he will rouse himself on your behalf(I)
and restore you to your prosperous state.(J)
7 Your beginnings will seem humble,
so prosperous(K) will your future be.(L)
8 “Ask the former generation(M)
and find out what their ancestors learned,
9 for we were born only yesterday and know nothing,(N)
and our days on earth are but a shadow.(O)
10 Will they not instruct(P) you and tell you?
Will they not bring forth words from their understanding?(Q)
11 Can papyrus grow tall where there is no marsh?(R)
Can reeds(S) thrive without water?
12 While still growing and uncut,
they wither more quickly than grass.(T)
13 Such is the destiny(U) of all who forget God;(V)
so perishes the hope of the godless.(W)
14 What they trust in is fragile[a];
what they rely on is a spider’s web.(X)
15 They lean on the web,(Y) but it gives way;
they cling to it, but it does not hold.(Z)
16 They are like a well-watered plant in the sunshine,
spreading its shoots(AA) over the garden;(AB)
17 it entwines its roots around a pile of rocks
and looks for a place among the stones.
18 But when it is torn from its spot,
that place disowns(AC) it and says, ‘I never saw you.’(AD)
19 Surely its life withers(AE) away,
and[b] from the soil other plants grow.(AF)

8 Binh-đát, người Su-a, đáp lời Gióp:
2 Anh còn nói như vậy cho đến bao giờ?
Lời từ miệng anh là cuồng phong bão táp!
3 Có thể nào Đức Chúa Trời bẻ cong lẽ phải?
Có thể nào Đấng Toàn Năng bóp méo lẽ công bằng?
4 Con cái anh hẳn đã phạm tội với Ngài,
Cho nên Ngài đã giao chúng nó vào quyền lực của tội ác chúng.
5 Phần anh, nếu anh tìm kiếm Đức Chúa Trời,
Và cầu khẩn Đấng Toàn Năng,
6 Nếu anh thanh sạch và ngay thẳng,
Thì ngay bây giờ, chắc chắn Ngài sẽ giải cứu anh
Và khôi phục gia đình tài sản anh, để thưởng sự công bình anh.
7 Tình trạng ban đầu của anh sẽ chẳng đáng kể
So với tương lai anh rạng rỡ bội phần.
Tội Ác Bị Hình Phạt
8 Tôi xin anh học hỏi thế hệ trước,
Nghiên cứu những điều cha ông họ tìm ra,
9 Vì chúng ta mới sanh hôm qua, chẳng biết gì,
Ngày đời chúng ta trên đất qua đi như cái bóng.
10 Nhưng họ sẽ dạy dỗ và chỉ bảo anh,
Nói lên những gì họ hiểu biết.
11 Cây cói giấy có thể nào mọc nơi không đầm lầy?
Lau sậy có thể nào sống nơi không có nước?
12 Đang lúc xanh mởn, chưa bị cắt,
Chúng sẽ khô héo trước các loài cỏ khác.
13 Đó là số phận của mọi người chối bỏ Đức Chúa Trời;
Kẻ vô đạo tiêu tan hy vọng.
14 Lòng tin tưởng của họ bị cắt đứt,
Họ trông cậy vào một màng nhện!
15 Họ dựa vào nhà mình, nhà không đứng nổi,
Họ bám lấy nhà, cũng không chỗi dậy được.
16 Họ giống như cây xanh mướt dưới ánh mặt trời,
Đâm chồi nảy tược tràn khắp vườn,
17 Rễ quấn quanh đống đá,
Bám chặt từng hòn đá.
18 Nhưng nếu cây bị nhổ lên khỏi chỗ nó mọc,
Chỗ ấy sẽ từ bỏ nó: “Ta chưa hề thấy ngươi.”
19 Kìa, niềm vui của những kẻ từ bỏ Đức Chúa Trời chỉ có bấy nhiêu.
Từ đất ấy, những cây khác sẽ mọc lên.
Đức Chúa Trời Chăm Sóc Người Trung Tín
20 Nhưng Đức Chúa Trời không ruồng bỏ người trọn vẹn,
Cũng không giúp đỡ kẻ ác.
21 Ngài sẽ khiến cho miệng anh đầy tiếng cười,
Môi anh đầy tiếng reo vui.
22 Những kẻ thù ghét anh sẽ chuốc lấy hổ thẹn,
Lều trại kẻ ác sẽ tiêu tan.
