Job 5
Christian Standard Bible
5 Call out! Will anyone answer you?
Which of the holy ones(A) will you turn to?
2 For anger kills a fool,
and jealousy slays the gullible.(B)
3 I have seen a fool taking root,
but I immediately pronounced a curse on his home.
4 His children are far from safety.
They are crushed at the city gate,(C)
with no one to rescue them.
5 The hungry consume his harvest,
even taking it out of the thorns.[a]
The thirsty[b] pant for his children’s wealth.
6 For distress does not grow out of the soil,
and trouble does not sprout from the ground.
7 But humans are born for trouble(D)
as surely as sparks fly upward.
8 However, if I were you, I would appeal to God
and would present my case to him.(E)
9 He does great(F) and unsearchable things,
wonders without number.(G)
10 He gives rain to the earth
and sends water to the fields.(H)
11 He sets the lowly on high,
and mourners are lifted to safety.(I)
12 He frustrates the schemes of the crafty
so that they[c] achieve no success.
13 He traps the wise in their craftiness
so that the plans of the deceptive
are quickly brought to an end.(J)
14 They encounter darkness by day,
and they grope at noon
as if it were night.(K)
15 He saves the needy from their sharp words[d](L)
and from the clutches of the powerful.
16 So the poor have hope,
and injustice shuts its mouth.(M)
17 See how happy is the person whom God corrects;
so do not reject the discipline of the Almighty.
18 For he wounds but he also bandages;
he strikes, but his hands also heal.(N)
19 He will rescue you from six calamities;
no harm will touch you in seven.
20 In famine he will redeem you from death,
and in battle, from the power of the sword.(O)
21 You will be safe from slander[e]
and not fear destruction when it comes.(P)
22 You will laugh at destruction and hunger
and not fear the land’s wild creatures.
23 For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field,
and the wild animals will be at peace with you.(Q)
24 You will know that your tent is secure,(R)
and nothing will be missing when you inspect your home.
25 You will also know that your offspring will be many
and your descendants like the grass of the earth.
26 You will approach the grave(S) in full vigor,(T)
as a stack of sheaves is gathered in its season.
27 We have investigated this, and it is true!
Hear it and understand it for yourself.
Job 5
Living Bible
5 “They cry for help but no one listens; they turn to their gods, but none gives them aid. 2 They die in helpless frustration, overcome by their own anger. 3 Those who turn from God may be successful for the moment, but then comes sudden disaster. 4 Their children are cheated, with no one to defend them. 5 Their harvests are stolen, and their wealth slakes the thirst of many others, not themselves! 6 Misery comes upon them to punish them for sowing seeds of sin. 7 Mankind heads for sin and misery as predictably as flames shoot upwards from a fire.
8 “My advice to you is this: Go to God and confess your sins to him.[a] 9 For he does wonderful miracles, marvels without number. 10 He sends the rain upon the earth to water the fields, 11 and gives prosperity to the poor and humble, and takes sufferers to safety.
12 “He frustrates the plans of crafty men. 13 They are caught in their own traps; he thwarts their schemes. 14 They grope like blind men in the daylight; they see no better in the daytime than at night.
15 “God saves the fatherless and the poor from the grasp of these oppressors. 16 And so at last the poor have hope, and the fangs of the wicked are broken.
17 “How enviable the man whom God corrects! Oh, do not despise the chastening of the Lord when you sin. 18 For though he wounds, he binds and heals again. 19 He will deliver you again and again so that no evil can touch you.
20 “He will keep you from death in famine and from the power of the sword in time of war.
21 “You will be safe from slander; no need to fear the future.
22 “You shall laugh at war and famine; wild animals will leave you alone. 23 Dangerous animals will be at peace with you.
24 “You need not worry about your home while you are gone; nothing shall be stolen from your barns.
25 “Your sons shall become important men; your descendants shall be as numerous as grass! 26 You shall live a long, good life; like standing grain, you’ll not be harvested until it’s time! 27 I have found from experience that all of this is true. For your own good, listen to my counsel.”

Job 5
Traducción en lenguaje actual
5 »¡Grita, Job!
¡Grita todo lo que quieras,
a ver si algún ángel te responde!
2 Sólo los tontos y necios
se mueren de celos y envidia.
3 Algunos llegan a prosperar,
pero su casa está maldita.
4 A sus hijos,
nadie los ayuda ni los defiende;
¡en los tribunales del pueblo
nadie les hace justicia!
5 Sus riquezas y sus cosechas
terminan en la mesa de los hambrientos.
6 »¡Siempre hay una razón
para el mal y la desgracia!
7 Así como el fuego es la causa
de que salten chispas,
nosotros somos responsables
de nuestra propia desgracia.
8 »Si yo estuviera en tu lugar,
pondría mi caso en manos de Dios.
9 Sus milagros y maravillas
no los podemos entender.
10 Dios hace que la lluvia
caiga sobre los campos;
11 Dios da poder a los humildes
y ayuda a los afligidos;
12-13 Dios hace que los astutos
caigan en sus propias trampas;
les desbarata sus planes malvados
y les arruina sus malas acciones.
14 Dios hace que se tropiecen de día
como si anduvieran de noche,
15 pero salva a la gente pobre
del poder de sus enemigos;
16 a los pobres les devuelve la esperanza,
pero a los malvados los deja callados.
17 »Cuando el Dios todopoderoso te corrija,
puedes considerarte bendecido;
no desprecies su corrección.
18 Dios hiere, pero cura la herida;
Dios golpea, pero alivia el dolor.
19 Una y otra vez vendrá a ayudarte,
y aunque estés en graves peligros
no dejará que nada te dañe.
20 En tiempos de hambre,
no dejará que te mueras;
en tiempos de guerra,
no dejará que te maten.
21 Cuando alguien te maldiga,
no tendrás por qué tener miedo;
esa maldición no se cumplirá.
22 Te reirás del hambre
y de las calamidades,
y no tendrás por qué temer
a los animales salvajes:
23 ¡las piedras del campo
y las bestias salvajes
serán tus mejores amigas!
24 En tu casa vivirás tranquilo,
y cuando cuentes tu ganado
no te faltará un solo animal.
25 Tendrás muchos hijos y muchos nietos;
¡nacerán como la hierba del campo!
26 Serás como el trigo
que madura en la espiga:
no morirás antes de tiempo,
sino cuando llegue el momento.
27 Esto es un hecho comprobado.
Si nos prestas atención,
tú mismo podrás comprobarlo».
