⁴ Their children are far from safety,
    they are crushed in the gate,
    and there is no one to deliver them.^(A)

⁵ Happy is the man who has
    his quiver full of them.
He shall not be put to shame
    when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.^(A)

¹⁵⁵ Salvation is far from the wicked,
    for they do not seek your statutes.^(A)

¹² For I know how many are your transgressions
    and how great are your sins—
you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe
    and push aside the needy in the gate.^(A)

⁹ May his children be orphans
    and his wife a widow.^(A)
10 May his children wander about and beg;
    may they be driven out of^[a] the ruins they inhabit.
¹¹ May the creditor seize all that he has;
    may strangers plunder the fruits of his toil.^(B)
12 May there be no one to do him a kindness
    nor anyone to pity his orphaned children.^(C)
13 May his posterity be cut off;
    may his name be blotted out in the second generation.^(D)
14 May the iniquity of his father^[b] be remembered before the Lord,
    and do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out.^(E)
15 Let them be before the Lord continually,
    and may his^[c] memory be cut off from the earth.^(F)

² or like a lion they will tear me apart;
    they will drag me away, with no one to rescue.^(A)

¹⁴ If their children are multiplied, it is for the sword,
    and their offspring have not enough to eat.^(A)

¹⁶ Their roots dry up beneath,
    and their branches wither above.^(A)
17 Their memory perishes from the earth,
    and they have no name in the street.^(B)
18 They are thrust from light into darkness
    and driven out of the world.
¹⁹ They have no offspring or descendant among their people
    and no survivor where they used to live.^(C)
