⁴ His sons are ^(A)far from safety,
They are crushed in the gate,
And ^(B)there is no deliverer.

^5 (A)Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;
^(B)They shall not be ashamed,
But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

¹⁵⁵ Salvation is far from the wicked,
For they do not seek Your statutes.

¹² For I ^(A)know your manifold transgressions
And your mighty sins:
^(B)Afflicting the just and taking bribes;
^(C)Diverting the poor from justice at the gate.

^9 (A)Let his children be fatherless,
And his wife a widow.
¹⁰ Let his children ^[a]continually be vagabonds, and beg;
Let them ^[b]seek their bread also from their desolate places.
^11 (B)Let the creditor seize all that he has,
And let strangers plunder his labor.
¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him,
Nor let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
^13 (C)Let his ^[c]posterity be cut off,
And in the generation following let their ^(D)name be blotted out.

^2 (A)Lest they tear me like a lion,
^(B)Rending me in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

^14 (A)If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword;
And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

^16 (A)His roots are dried out below,
And his branch withers above.
^17 (B)The memory of him perishes from the earth,
And he has no name ^[a]among the renowned.
^18 [b]He is driven from light into darkness,
And chased out of the world.
^19 (C)He has neither son nor posterity among his people,
Nor any remaining in his dwellings.
