⁹ Do not be quickly provoked^(A) in your spirit,
    for anger resides in the lap of fools.^(B)

¹⁶ Fools^(A) show their annoyance at once,^(B)
    but the prudent overlook an insult.^(C)

⁴ You who tear yourself^(A) to pieces in your anger,^(B)
    is the earth to be abandoned for your sake?
    Or must the rocks be moved from their place?^(C)

¹⁷ Some became fools^(A) through their rebellious ways^(B)
    and suffered affliction^(C) because of their iniquities.

⁶ Senseless people^(A) do not know,
    fools do not understand,

⁴ To the arrogant^(A) I say, ‘Boast no more,’^(B)
    and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns.^[a](C)
