² Surely vexation kills the fool,
    and jealousy slays the simple.

^9 (A)Be not quick in your spirit to become angry,
    ^(B)for anger lodges in the heart^[a] of fools.

^16 (A)The vexation of a fool is known at once,
    but the prudent ignores an insult.

⁴ You who ^(A)tear yourself in your anger,
    shall the earth be forsaken for you,
    or ^(B)the rock be removed out of its place?

⁶ The stupid man cannot know;
    the fool cannot understand this:

⁴ I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
    and to the wicked, ^(A)‘Do not lift up your horn;

14 ^(A)The ^(B)fool says in his heart, ^(C)“There is no God.”
    They are ^(D)corrupt, they do abominable deeds;
    ^(E)there is none who does good.
