Job Is Humbled and Satisfied
42 Then Job answered the Lord:
2 “I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
3 ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’
Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
4 ‘Hear, and I will speak;
I will question you, and you declare to me.’
5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
but now my eye sees you;
6 therefore I despise myself,
and repent in dust and ashes.”
Job’s Friends Are Humiliated
7 After the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. 8 Now therefore take seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly; for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has done.” 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did what the Lord had told them; and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.
Job’s Fortunes Are Restored Twofold
10 And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his friends; and the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. 11 Then there came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before, and they ate bread with him in his house; they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him; and each of them gave him a piece of money[a] and a gold ring. 12 The Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; and he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand donkeys. 13 He also had seven sons and three daughters. 14 He named the first Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch. 15 In all the land there were no women so beautiful as Job’s daughters; and their father gave them an inheritance along with their brothers. 16 After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children, and his children’s children, four generations. 17 And Job died, old and full of days.

3 Chi è colui che senza intelligenza offusca il tuo disegno? Sì, ne ho parlato, ma non lo capivo; sono cose per me troppo meravigliose e io non le conosco.
4 Ti prego, ascoltami, e io parlerò; ti farò delle domande e tu insegnami!
5 Il mio orecchio aveva sentito parlare di te, ma ora l’occhio mio ti ha visto.
6 Perciò mi ravvedo, mi pento sulla polvere e sulla cenere».
Giobbe riacquista la prosperità
7 (B)Dopo che ebbe rivolto questi discorsi a Giobbe, il Signore disse a Elifaz di Teman: «La mia ira è accesa contro di te e contro i tuoi due amici, perché non avete parlato di me secondo la verità, come ha fatto il mio servo Giobbe. 8 Ora dunque prendete sette tori e sette montoni, andate a trovare il mio servo Giobbe e offriteli in olocausto per voi stessi. Il mio servo Giobbe pregherà per voi e io avrò riguardo a lui per non punire la vostra follia, poiché non avete parlato di me secondo la verità, come ha fatto il mio servo Giobbe».
9 Elifaz di Teman, Bildad di Suac e Zofar di Naama se ne andarono e fecero come il Signore aveva loro ordinato; e il Signore ebbe riguardo per Giobbe.
10 Quando Giobbe ebbe pregato per i suoi amici, il Signore lo ristabilì nella condizione di prima e gli rese il doppio di tutto quello che già gli era appartenuto.
11 Tutti i suoi fratelli, tutte le sue sorelle e tutte le sue conoscenze di prima vennero a trovarlo, mangiarono con lui in casa sua, lo confortarono e lo consolarono di tutti i mali che il Signore gli aveva fatto cadere addosso; e ognuno di loro gli diede un pezzo d’argento[a] e un anello d’oro.
12 Il Signore benedì gli ultimi anni di Giobbe più dei primi; ed egli ebbe quattordicimila pecore, seimila cammelli, mille paia di buoi e mille asine. 13 Ebbe pure sette figli e tre figlie; 14 e chiamò la prima Gemima[b], la seconda Chesia[c] e la terza Cheren-Appuc[d]. 15 In tutto il paese non c’erano donne così belle come le figlie di Giobbe; e il padre assegnò loro un’eredità tra i loro fratelli.
16 Giobbe, dopo questo, visse centoquarant’anni, e vide i suoi figli e i figli dei suoi figli fino alla quarta generazione.
17 Poi Giobbe morì vecchio e sazio di giorni.

3 »Wer verfinstert da den Ratschluss mit Worten ohne Erkenntnis?« Fürwahr, ich habe geredet, was ich nicht verstehe, Dinge, die mir zu wunderbar sind und die ich nicht begreifen kann!
4 »Höre nun, ich will reden; ich will dich fragen, und du belehre mich!«
5 Vom Hörensagen hatte ich von dir gehört, aber nun hat mein Auge dich gesehen.
6 Darum spreche ich mich schuldig[a] und tue Buße in Staub und in Asche!
Hiob bittet für seine Freunde
7 Und es geschah, als der Herr diese Worte an Hiob vollendet hatte, da sprach der Herr zu Eliphas, dem Temaniter: Mein Zorn ist entbrannt über dich und deine beiden Freunde, denn ihr habt nicht recht von mir geredet, wie mein Knecht Hiob.
8 So nehmt nun sieben Jungstiere und sieben Widder und geht zu meinem Knecht Hiob und bringt sie als Brandopfer dar für euch selbst! Mein Knecht Hiob aber soll für euch bitten; denn nur ihn werde ich erhören[b], dass ich gegen euch nicht nach eurer Torheit handle; denn ihr habt nicht recht von mir geredet, wie mein Knecht Hiob!
9 Da gingen Eliphas, der Temaniter, und Bildad, der Schuchiter, und Zophar, der Naamatiter, und machten es so, wie der Herr es ihnen befohlen hatte. Und der Herr erhörte Hiob.
Das gesegnete Ende Hiobs
10 Und der Herr wendete Hiobs Geschick, als er für seine Freunde bat; und der Herr erstattete Hiob alles doppelt wieder, was er gehabt hatte.
11 Und alle seine Brüder und alle seine Schwestern und alle seine früheren Bekannten kamen zu Hiob und aßen mit ihm in seinem Haus; und sie bezeugten ihm Teilnahme und trösteten ihn wegen all des Unglücks, das der Herr über ihn gebracht hatte, und schenkten ihm ein jeder eine Kesita[c] und einen goldenen Ring.
12 Und der Herr segnete das spätere Leben Hiobs mehr als sein früheres; er bekam 14 000 Schafe, 6 000 Kamele, 1 000 Joch Rinder und 1 000 Eselinnen.
13 Er bekam auch sieben Söhne und drei Töchter.
14 Und er gab der ersten den Namen Jemima, der zweiten den Namen Kezia und der dritten den Namen Keren-Happuch.
15 Und es wurden im ganzen Land keine so schönen Frauen gefunden wie Hiobs Töchter; und ihr Vater gab ihnen ein Erbteil unter ihren Brüdern.
16 Hiob aber lebte danach noch 140 Jahre und sah seine Kinder und Kindeskinder bis in das vierte Geschlecht.
17 Und Hiob starb alt und lebenssatt.

4 Azt mondtad: »Készülj fel, mint igazi férfi,
hadd kérdezzelek, te pedig válaszolj nekem!«
5 Uram, eddig csak hallottam rólad,
de most saját szememmel láttalak!
6 Ezért hibáztatom és elítélem magam,
s mindent visszavonok, amit mondtam!
Bocsáss meg nekem,
aki porban és hamuban heverek!”
Az Örökkévaló helyreállítja Jóbot
7 Miután az Örökkévaló ezeket mondta Jóbnak, a témáni Elifázhoz fordult: „Nagyon megharagudtam rád és két barátodra, mivel nem az igazságot mondtátok rólam! Jób, a szolgám, viszont helyesen szólt felőlem. 8 Azért most vegyetek hét bikát és hét kost, menjetek szolgámhoz, Jóbhoz, és áldozzátok fel az állatokat égőáldozatként magatokért! Szolgám, Jób, pedig imádkozzon értetek! Az ő imádságát meghallgatom, és akkor nem fogok veletek úgy bánni, ahogyan megérdemelnétek. Pedig rászolgáltatok, mert nem az igazságot mondtátok rólam! Jób, a szolgám, viszont helyesen szólt felőlem”.
9 El is ment Jóbhoz a témáni Elifáz, a súahi Bildád, és a naamái Cófár, és mindent aszerint tettek, ahogy az Örökkévaló mondta. Az Örökkévaló pedig meghallgatta Jób imádságát, és teljesítette kérését.
10 Miután pedig Jób imádkozott a barátaiért, az Örökkévaló helyreállította őt, és minden vagyonát kétszeresen visszaadta. 11 Eljöttek Jóbhoz az összes testvérei és minden korábbi barátja, és nagy vendégséget tartottak. Mindannyian vigasztalták Jóbot, és együttérzésüket fejezték ki a csapások miatt, amelyekkel az Örökkévaló sújtotta. Mindegyikük ajándékozott Jóbnak egy-egy ezüstöt[a] és egy-egy aranygyűrűt.
12 Az Örökkévaló pedig megáldotta Jóbot, még inkább, mint azelőtt. A nyájai annyira megszaporodtak, hogy 14 000 juha és kecskéje, 6 000 tevéje, 1 000 pár igavonó ökre és 1 000 szamara lett. 13 Jóbnak ismét gyermekei születtek: hét fia és három leánya. 14 Születésük sorrendje szerint így nevezte el a leányait: Jemima, Kecia és Keren-Happúk. 15 Olyan szépek voltak, hogy nem akadt párjuk az egész tartományban, és apjuktól ugyanolyan örökséget kaptak, mint fiútestvéreik.
16 Ezek után Jób még 140 esztendeig élt, és meglátta gyermekeit és azoknak leszármazottjait is négy nemzedéken keresztül. 17 Életével megelégedve, idős korában halt meg Jób.

Oui, j’ai parlé sans les comprendre
de choses merveilleuses |qui me dépassent, |que je ne connais pas[a].
4 « Ecoute, disais-tu, |c’est moi qui parlerai :
je vais te poser des questions, |et tu m’enseigneras. »
5 Jusqu’à présent |j’avais seulement entendu |parler de toi.
Mais maintenant, |mes yeux t’ont vu.
6 Aussi je me condamne, |je regrette mon attitude
en m’humiliant |sur la poussière et sur la cendre[b].
Épilogue
7 Après avoir dit ces choses à Job, l’Eternel s’adressa à Eliphaz de Témân et lui dit : Je suis très en colère contre toi et tes deux amis, car contrairement à mon serviteur Job, vous n’avez pas parlé de moi correctement. 8 Procurez-vous donc maintenant sept taureaux et sept béliers[c], et allez trouver mon serviteur Job. Vous offrirez ces animaux pour vous en holocauste. Et mon serviteur Job priera pour vous. C’est par égard pour lui que je ne vous traiterai pas selon votre folie. Car, contrairement à mon serviteur Job, vous n’avez pas parlé de moi correctement.
9 Eliphaz de Témân, Bildad de Shouah et Tsophar de Naama allèrent accomplir ce que l’Eternel leur avait demandé. L’Eternel eut égard à la prière de Job. 10 Puis, lorsque Job eut prié pour ses amis, l’Eternel le rétablit dans son ancienne condition. Il donna même à Job deux fois autant des biens qu’il avait possédés.
11 Tous les frères et sœurs de Job, et toutes ses connaissances vinrent lui rendre visite. Ils partagèrent un repas avec lui dans sa maison ; ils le consolèrent et ils lui témoignèrent toute leur compassion pour tous les malheurs que l’Eternel lui avait envoyés. Chacun d’entre eux lui donna une pièce d’argent[d] et un anneau d’or.
12 L’Eternel bénit le reste de la vie de Job plus que la première partie, si bien qu’il posséda quatorze mille moutons et chèvres et six mille chameaux, mille paires de bœufs et mille ânesses. 13 Il eut aussi sept fils et trois filles. 14 Il nomma la première Yemima (Tourterelle), la deuxième eut pour nom Qetsia (Fleur-de-cannelle) et la troisième Qérèn-Happouk (Fard-à-paupières). 15 On ne pouvait trouver dans le pays entier des femmes aussi belles que les filles de Job. Leur père leur donna une part d’héritage au même titre qu’à leurs frères.
16 Après cela, Job vécut encore cent quarante ans, de sorte qu’il vit ses descendants jusqu’à la quatrième génération. 17 Puis Job mourut âgé et rassasié de jours[e].
