O Senhor continua seu desafio
41 [a] “Você é capaz de pegar o Leviatã[b] com um anzol
ou prender sua língua com um laço?
2 É capaz de amarrá-lo, passando uma corda por seu nariz,
ou atravessar seu queixo com um gancho?
3 Acaso ele implorará por misericórdia
ou suplicará por piedade?
4 Aceitará trabalhar para você
e ser seu escravo para o resto da vida?
5 Fará dele um animal de estimação, como um pássaro,
ou deixará que suas meninas brinquem com ele?
6 Comerciantes o comprarão
para vendê-lo no mercado?
7 É possível furar sua pele com lanças
ou ferir sua cabeça com arpões?
8 Se você encostar a mão nele,
o resultado será uma batalha que você não esquecerá,
e nunca mais tentará fazê-lo!
9 [c]Não! É inútil procurar capturá-lo;
o caçador que tentar será derrubado.
10 E, visto que ninguém ousa perturbá-lo,
quem será capaz de me enfrentar?
11 Quem me deu alguma coisa, para que eu precise retribuir depois?
Tudo debaixo do céu me pertence.
12 “Quero destacar as pernas do Leviatã,
sua enorme força e sua forma perfeita.
13 Quem é capaz de arrancar seu couro?
Quem pode atravessar sua couraça dupla?[d]
14 Quem é capaz de fazê-lo abrir a boca?
Seus dentes são aterrorizantes!
15 As escamas de suas costas são como[e] fileiras de escudos
firmemente unidos uns aos outros.
16 São tão próximas umas às outras
que nem mesmo ar passa entre elas.
17 Cada escama é presa à vizinha;
são entrelaçadas e nada pode atravessá-las.
18 “Seu forte sopro atira lampejos de luz,
seus olhos são como o sol do amanhecer.
19 De sua boca saltam relâmpagos;
saem chamas de fogo.
20 Suas narinas soltam fumaça,
como vapor de uma panela aquecida numa fogueira de juncos.
21 Seu hálito faria acender carvão,
pois chamas saltam de sua boca.
22 “A força tremenda do pescoço do Leviatã
espalha terror por onde ele passa.
23 Sua carne é dura e firme
e não se pode atravessá-la.
24 Seu coração é duro como rocha,
como pedra de moinho.
25 Quando ele se levanta, os valentes se enchem de medo
e são tomados de pavor.
26 Nenhuma espada pode detê-lo,
nem lança, nem dardo, nem arpão.
27 Para essa criatura, ferro é como palha,
e bronze, como madeira podre.
28 Flechas não o levam a fugir,
pedras lançadas de uma funda são como ciscos.
29 Bastões são como folhas de capim,
e ele ri do zunido das lanças.
30 Sua barriga é coberta de escamas afiadas como vidro;
quando ela se arrasta na lama, escava como um arado.
31 “O Leviatã faz as profundezas se agitarem como uma panela
e o mar se revolver como um pote de óleo.
32 Deixa na água um rastro luminoso,
que faz o mar parecer branco.
33 Não há nada na terra semelhante a ele,
nenhuma criatura tão destemida.
34 De todas as criaturas, ele é a mais imponente;
é o rei de todos os animais selvagens”.

41 「你豈能用魚鉤釣鱷魚，
用繩索綁住牠的舌頭？
2 你豈能用繩子穿牠的鼻子，
用鉤子穿牠的腮骨？
3 牠豈會向你連連求饒，
對你說柔和的話？
4 牠豈肯與你立約，
一生做你的奴隸？
5 你豈能拿牠當小鳥玩耍，
或拴起來給幼女取樂？
6 漁夫們豈能把牠當貨物出售，
賣給商人？
7 你豈能在牠皮上戳滿長矛，
頭上插滿魚叉？
8 你動手碰碰牠，
就知道有何惡戰，絕不會再碰。
9 企圖捕捉牠的都會失望，
人看到牠就會心驚膽戰。
10 再兇猛的人也不敢惹牠。
這樣，誰能在我面前站立得住？
11 誰給過我什麼，要我償還？
天下萬物都是我的。
12 「論到牠的四肢、大力和姣美的身體，
我不能緘默不言。
13 誰能剝去牠的外皮？
誰能給牠戴上轡頭？
14 誰能打開牠的口？
牠的牙齒令人恐懼。
15 牠的脊背覆著行行鱗甲，
牢牢地密封在一起，
16 緊密無間，
連氣也透不進去。
17 鱗甲彼此相連相扣，
無法分開。
18 牠打噴嚏時，水光四射；
牠的眼睛發出晨光；
19 口中噴出火炬，
迸出火星；
20 鼻孔冒煙，
如沸騰的鍋和燃燒的蘆葦；
21 呼氣可點燃煤炭，
口中噴出火焰；
22 頸項強而有力，
恐懼在牠前面開路；
23 身上的皺褶緊密相連，
牢牢地密封在一起；
24 心堅如石，
硬如磨石。
25 牠一站起來，勇士都害怕，
見牠衝來，他們慌忙退縮。
26 刀劍擋不住牠，
長矛、標槍、尖戟也無能為力。
27 牠視鐵如乾草，
視銅如朽木。
28 利箭嚇不跑牠，
彈石在牠看來只是碎稭；
29 棍棒無異於稭稈，
牠嗤笑投來的標槍。
30 牠腹部有鋒利的瓦片，
在淤泥上留下道道耙痕。
31 牠使深淵如鍋翻騰，
大海如油鍋滾動。
32 牠游過後留下一道波光，
使深淵彷彿披上銀髮。
33 地上沒有動物能與牠相比，
像牠那樣無所畏懼。
34 牠藐視群雄，
在高傲的百獸中稱王。」

or tie down its tongue with a rope?
2 Can you put a cord through its nose(C)
or pierce its jaw with a hook?(D)
3 Will it keep begging you for mercy?(E)
Will it speak to you with gentle words?
4 Will it make an agreement with you
for you to take it as your slave for life?(F)
5 Can you make a pet of it like a bird
or put it on a leash for the young women in your house?
6 Will traders barter for it?
Will they divide it up among the merchants?
7 Can you fill its hide with harpoons
or its head with fishing spears?(G)
8 If you lay a hand on it,
you will remember the struggle and never do it again!(H)
9 Any hope of subduing it is false;
the mere sight of it is overpowering.(I)
10 No one is fierce enough to rouse it.(J)
Who then is able to stand against me?(K)
11 Who has a claim against me that I must pay?(L)
Everything under heaven belongs to me.(M)
12 “I will not fail to speak of Leviathan’s limbs,(N)
its strength(O) and its graceful form.
13 Who can strip off its outer coat?
Who can penetrate its double coat of armor[b]?(P)
14 Who dares open the doors of its mouth,(Q)
ringed about with fearsome teeth?
15 Its back has[c] rows of shields
tightly sealed together;(R)
16 each is so close to the next
that no air can pass between.
17 They are joined fast to one another;
they cling together and cannot be parted.
18 Its snorting throws out flashes of light;
its eyes are like the rays of dawn.(S)
19 Flames(T) stream from its mouth;
sparks of fire shoot out.
20 Smoke pours from its nostrils(U)
as from a boiling pot over burning reeds.
21 Its breath(V) sets coals ablaze,
and flames dart from its mouth.(W)
22 Strength(X) resides in its neck;
dismay goes before it.
23 The folds of its flesh are tightly joined;
they are firm and immovable.
24 Its chest is hard as rock,
hard as a lower millstone.(Y)
25 When it rises up, the mighty are terrified;(Z)
they retreat before its thrashing.(AA)
26 The sword that reaches it has no effect,
nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin.(AB)
27 Iron it treats like straw(AC)
and bronze like rotten wood.
28 Arrows do not make it flee;(AD)
slingstones are like chaff to it.
29 A club seems to it but a piece of straw;(AE)
it laughs(AF) at the rattling of the lance.
30 Its undersides are jagged potsherds,
leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge.(AG)
31 It makes the depths churn like a boiling caldron(AH)
and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment.(AI)
32 It leaves a glistening wake behind it;
one would think the deep had white hair.
33 Nothing on earth is its equal(AJ)—
a creature without fear.
34 It looks down on all that are haughty;(AK)
it is king over all that are proud.(AL)”
