God’s Power in the Leviathan
41 “Can you draw out (A)Leviathan[a] with a hook,
Or snare his tongue with a line which you lower?
2 Can you (B)put a reed through his nose,
Or pierce his jaw with a [b]hook?
3 Will he make many supplications to you?
Will he speak softly to you?
4 Will he make a covenant with you?
Will you take him as a servant forever?
5 Will you play with him as with a bird,
Or will you leash him for your maidens?
6 Will your companions [c]make a banquet of him?
Will they apportion him among the merchants?
7 Can you fill his skin with harpoons,
Or his head with fishing spears?
8 Lay your hand on him;
Remember the battle—
Never do it again!
9 Indeed, any hope of overcoming him is false;
Shall one not be overwhelmed at the sight of him?
10 No one is so fierce that he would dare stir him up.
Who then is able to stand against Me?
11 (C)Who has preceded Me, that I should pay him?
(D)Everything under heaven is Mine.
12 “I will not [d]conceal his limbs,
His mighty power, or his graceful proportions.
13 Who can [e]remove his outer coat?
Who can approach him with a double bridle?
14 Who can open the doors of his face,
With his terrible teeth all around?
15 His rows of [f]scales are his pride,
Shut up tightly as with a seal;
16 One is so near another
That no air can come between them;
17 They are joined one to another,
They stick together and cannot be parted.
18 His sneezings flash forth light,
And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
19 Out of his mouth go burning lights;
Sparks of fire shoot out.
20 Smoke goes out of his nostrils,
As from a boiling pot and burning rushes.
21 His breath kindles coals,
And a flame goes out of his mouth.
22 Strength dwells in his neck,
And [g]sorrow dances before him.
23 The folds of his flesh are joined together;
They are firm on him and cannot be moved.
24 His heart is as hard as stone,
Even as hard as the lower millstone.
25 When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid;
Because of his crashings they [h]are beside themselves.
26 Though the sword reaches him, it cannot avail;
Nor does spear, dart, or javelin.
27 He regards iron as straw,
And bronze as rotten wood.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee;
Slingstones become like stubble to him.
29 Darts are regarded as straw;
He laughs at the threat of javelins.
30 His undersides are like sharp potsherds;
He spreads pointed marks in the mire.
31 He makes the deep boil like a pot;
He makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
32 He leaves a shining wake behind him;
One would think the deep had white hair.
33 On earth there is nothing like him,
Which is made without fear.
34 He beholds every high thing;
He is king over all the children of pride.”

Hoặc có thể cột nó vào dây để các con gái nhỏ của ngươi dắt nó dạo chơi sao?
6 Các thương gia sẽ trả giá để mua nó chăng?
Họ có thể xẻ thịt nó ra và phân phối cho các bạn hàng sao?
7 Ngươi có thể dùng lao đánh cá voi để đâm thủng da nó chăng?
Hoặc đâm thủng đầu nó bằng lao phóng cá chăng?
8 Nếu ngươi muốn tra tay trên mình nó, hãy nhớ lại lúc ngươi giao tranh ngoài trận mạc ra sao;

9 Kìa, cố gắng để bắt nó chỉ là chuyện hão;
Vì chỉ trông thấy nó người ta đã bủn rủn rụng rời.
10 Không ai đủ gan dạ để trêu chọc nó;
Thế thì ai có thể đứng nổi trước mặt Ta?
11 Ai đã cho Ta điều gì để Ta phải trả ơn cho kẻ ấy?
Tất cả những vật chi ở dưới trời thảy đều thuộc về Ta.
12 Ta không thể không nói về các phần cơ thể của nó,
Hay nói về sức lực hoặc thân hình cân đối đẹp đẽ của nó.
13 Ai dám lột da[b] nó?
Ai dám gắn cương vào giữa hai hàm răng nó chăng?
14 Ai dám vạch miệng nó?
Hai hàm răng nó thật là kinh khủng.
15 Lớp vảy của nó là cái khiên che lưng nó;
Chúng gắn chặt với nhau như được niêm lại kỹ càng.
16 Chiếc vảy nầy gối đầu trên chiếc vảy khác;
Chúng khít khao đến nỗi gió không thể lọt vào.
17 Chúng kết lại với nhau,
Chúng gắn chặt với nhau và không thể bị tách rời.
18 Nó nhảy mũi làm bắn ra tia sáng;
Mắt nó trông như mí mắt của hừng đông.
19 Từ miệng nó phun ra tia lửa;
Các đốm lửa trong mồm nó cứ liên tục bắn ra.
20 Khói từ các lỗ mũi nó bay ra nghi ngút;
Như khói bay lên khi đun nước bằng các sậy lau.
21 Hơi thở của nó khiến các than đen phực cháy;
Những ngọn lửa hừng từ miệng nó phun ra.
22 Trong cổ nó chứa ngầm sức mạnh;
Trước mặt nó muôn vật quýnh quáng vì kinh hoàng.
23 Các thớ thịt của nó dính chặt với nhau,
Chúng rắn chắc, không thể nào tách rời ra được.
24 Tim nó cứng như đá,
Cứng như thớt dưới của cối xay.
25 Khi nó đứng dậy, các dũng sĩ đều kinh hồn táng đởm;
Nghe tiếng các vật bị nó làm cho gãy đổ, họ kinh hãi rụng rời.
26 Dù gươm đao đâm chém nó, nó chẳng hề hấn gì;
Dù giáo, phi tiêu, và lao phóng vào nó, nó vẫn không sao.
27 Nó xem sắt chẳng khác gì rơm rạ,
Nó coi đồng như gỗ mục mà thôi.
28 Các tên đạn không làm nó chạy trốn,
Ðá bắn ra từ các trành đối với nó như rơm rác.

41 Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
2 Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
6 Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?
7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
8 Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
10 None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?
11 Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
12 I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
13 Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.
15 His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
17 They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
18 By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
19 Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.
20 Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
22 In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.
25 When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
26 The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
27 He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
29 Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
30 Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
32 He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
34 He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.

or tie down its tongue with a rope?
2 Can you put a cord through its nose(C)
or pierce its jaw with a hook?(D)
3 Will it keep begging you for mercy?(E)
Will it speak to you with gentle words?
4 Will it make an agreement with you
for you to take it as your slave for life?(F)
5 Can you make a pet of it like a bird
or put it on a leash for the young women in your house?
6 Will traders barter for it?
Will they divide it up among the merchants?
7 Can you fill its hide with harpoons
or its head with fishing spears?(G)
8 If you lay a hand on it,
you will remember the struggle and never do it again!(H)
9 Any hope of subduing it is false;
the mere sight of it is overpowering.(I)
10 No one is fierce enough to rouse it.(J)
Who then is able to stand against me?(K)
11 Who has a claim against me that I must pay?(L)
Everything under heaven belongs to me.(M)
12 “I will not fail to speak of Leviathan’s limbs,(N)
its strength(O) and its graceful form.
13 Who can strip off its outer coat?

ringed about with fearsome teeth?
15 Its back has[c] rows of shields
tightly sealed together;(R)
16 each is so close to the next
that no air can pass between.
17 They are joined fast to one another;
they cling together and cannot be parted.
18 Its snorting throws out flashes of light;
its eyes are like the rays of dawn.(S)
19 Flames(T) stream from its mouth;
sparks of fire shoot out.
20 Smoke pours from its nostrils(U)
as from a boiling pot over burning reeds.
21 Its breath(V) sets coals ablaze,
and flames dart from its mouth.(W)
22 Strength(X) resides in its neck;
dismay goes before it.
23 The folds of its flesh are tightly joined;
they are firm and immovable.
24 Its chest is hard as rock,
hard as a lower millstone.(Y)
25 When it rises up, the mighty are terrified;(Z)
they retreat before its thrashing.(AA)
26 The sword that reaches it has no effect,
nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin.(AB)
27 Iron it treats like straw(AC)
and bronze like rotten wood.

slingstones are like chaff to it.
29 A club seems to it but a piece of straw;(AE)
it laughs(AF) at the rattling of the lance.
30 Its undersides are jagged potsherds,
leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge.(AG)
31 It makes the depths churn like a boiling caldron(AH)
and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment.(AI)
32 It leaves a glistening wake behind it;
one would think the deep had white hair.
33 Nothing on earth is its equal(AJ)—
a creature without fear.
