Dios Habla Hoy
41 (40.25) Y a Leviatán, ¿lo pescarás con un anzuelo?
¿Podrás atarle la lengua con una cuerda?
2 (40.26) ¿Podrás pasarle un cordel por las narices
o atravesarle con un gancho la quijada?
3 (40.27) ¿Acaso va a rogarte que le tengas compasión,
y a suplicarte con palabras tiernas?
4 (40.28) ¿Acaso harás que te prometa
ser tu esclavo toda la vida?
5 (40.29) ¿Jugarás con él como con un pajarito?
¿Lo atarás como juguete de tus hijas?
6 (40.30) ¿Se pondrán a regatear por él en el mercado?
¿Lo cortarán en pedazos para venderlo?
7 (40.31) ¿Podrás atravesarle el cuero con flechas,
o la cabeza con arpones?
8 (40.32) Si llegas a ponerle la mano encima,
te dará tal batalla que no la olvidarás,
y nunca volverás a hacerlo.
9 (1) Con sólo ver a Leviatán,
cualquiera se desmaya de miedo.
10 (2) Si alguien lo provoca, se pone furioso;
nadie es capaz de hacerle frente.
11 (3) ¿Quién, que se le enfrente, saldrá sano y salvo?
¡Nadie en todo el mundo!
12 (4) No dejaré de mencionar sus patas
y su fuerza sin igual.
13 (5) ¿Quién puede quitarle el cuero que lo cubre,
o atravesar su doble coraza protectora?
14 (6) ¿Quién puede abrirle el hocico,
con su cerco de terribles dientes?
15 (7) Sus lomos son hileras de escudos
cerrados y duros como la piedra.
16 (8) Tan apretados están unos contra otros,
que ni el aire puede pasar entre ellos.
17 (9) Tan unidos y trabados están,
que nadie puede separarlos.
18 (10) Sus estornudos son como relámpagos;
sus ojos brillan como el sol cuando amanece.
19 (11) De su hocico salen llamaradas
y se escapan chispas de fuego.
20 (12) De sus narices sale humo,
como de una caldera que hierve al fuego.
21 (13) Su aliento enciende las brasas,
de su hocico salen llamas.
22 (14) Su cuello es tan fuerte
que ante él todos se llenan de miedo.
23 (15) Aun la parte carnosa de su cuerpo
es dura e impenetrable, como hierro fundido.
24 (16) Tiene el corazón duro como la roca,
duro como piedra de moler.
25 (17) Cuando él se levanta, los dioses se espantan
y huyen llenos de terror.
26 (18) Ni espada ni lanza ni flecha ni dardo
sirven de nada para atacarlo.
27 (19) Para él, el hierro es como paja,
y el bronce como madera podrida.
28 (20) Las flechas no lo hacen huir;
lanzarle piedras es como lanzarle paja.
29 (21) Un golpe de mazo le es como un golpe de caña;
se ríe al oír silbar las jabalinas.
30 (22) Cuando se arrastra, abre surcos en el barro,
como si lo hiciera con afilados trillos.
31 (23) Hace hervir como una olla al mar profundo;
como una caldera para mezclar ungüentos.
32 (24) Va dejando en el agua una estela
blanca y brillante como melena de canas.
33 (25) No hay en la tierra nada que se le parezca;
fue hecho para no sentir miedo jamás.
34 (26) Hace frente aun a los más arrogantes,
y es el rey de todas las fieras.

24 Pieptul îi este tare ca piatra,
tare ca piatra de moară de dedesubt.
25 Când el se ridică, cei puternici tremură;
groaza lui îi pune pe fugă.
26 Deşi sabia îl atinge, nu îi face nimic,
la fel nici suliţa, săgeata sau lancea.
27 Pentru el fierul e ca paiul
şi bronzul ca lemnul putred.
28 Săgeata nu-l pune pe fugă,

32 Lasă o urmă luminoasă după el,
de parcă adâncul ar avea plete albe.
33 Nu este nimic pe pământ ca el,
este făcut să fie fără frică.

41 [a] “Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook?
Or[b] can you tie down its mouth with a cord?[c]
2 Can you put a rope in its nose?
Or[d] can you pierce its jawbone with a hook?
3 Will it make numerous pleas for mercy to you?
Or will it speak gentle words to you?
4 Will it make a covenant with you?
Will you take it as a slave forever?
5 Will you play with it as with birds
and put it on a leash for your girls?
6 Will guildsmen bargain over it?
Will they divide it between tradesmen?
7 Can you fill its kin with harpoons
or[e] its head with fish spears?
8 Lay your hands on it;
think about the battle—you will not do it again!
9 “Look, the hope of capturing it[f] is false.
Will one be hurled down even at its sight?
10 Is it not fierce when somebody stirs it?
Who then is he who would stand before it?[g]
11 Who has come to confront me, that[h] I should repay him?
Under all the heavens, it belongs to me.[i]
12 “I will not keep quiet concerning its limbs
or[j] concerning the extent of its might and the gracefulness of its frame.
13 Who can strip off its outer covering?[k]
Who can penetrate its double harness?
14 Who can open the doors of its face?
Its teeth all around are fearsome.
15 Its back[l] has scales of shields;
it is shut up closely as with a seal.
16 They are close to one another—[m]
even[n] the air cannot come between them.
17 They are joined one to another;[o]
they cling together and cannot be separated.
18 “Its snorting flashes forth light,
and its eyes are red like dawn.[p]
19 Torches go from its mouth;
sparks of fire shoot out.
20 Smoke comes from its nostrils
as from a kettle boiling and burning bulrushes.
21 Its breath kindles charcoal,
and a flame comes from its mouth.
22 “Strength abides in its neck,
and dismay[q] dances before it.[r]
23 Its flesh’s folds of skin cling together;
it is cast on it—it will not be moved.
24 Its heart is cast as stone;
yes,[s] it is cast as the lower millstone.
25 When it raises itself,[t] the mighty ones are terrified;
they retreat because of its thrashing.
26 Reaching it with the sword does not avail,
nor with the spear, the dart, or[u] the javelin.
27 It regards iron as straw,
bronze as rotten wood.
28 An arrow[v] will not make it flee;
sling stones are turned to stubble for it.
29 Clubs are regarded as stubble,
and it laughs at the short sword’s rattle.
30 “Its underparts are shards of a potsherd;
it moves over mud like a threshing sledge.
31 It makes the deep boil like a cooking pot;
it makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
32 Behind it, it leaves a glistening wake;[w]
one would think that the deep has gray hair.
33 “On the ground it has no equal[x]—
a[y] creature without fear.
34 It observes all the lofty;
it is king over all that are proud.”[z]
