International Children’s Bible
40 The Lord said to Job:
2 “Will the person who argues with God All-Powerful correct him?
Let the person who accuses God answer him!”
3 Then Job answered the Lord:
4 “I am not worthy. I cannot answer you anything.
I will put my hand over my mouth.
5 I spoke one time, but I will not answer again.
I even spoke two times, but I will say nothing more.”
6 Then the Lord spoke to Job from the storm:
7 “Be strong, like a man.
I will ask you questions.
And you must answer me.
8 Would you say that I am unfair?
Would you blame me to make yourself look right?
9 Are you as strong as God?
And can your voice thunder like his?
10 If so, then decorate yourself with glory and beauty.
And put on honor and greatness as if they were clothing.
11 Let your great anger punish.
Look at everyone who is proud and make him feel unimportant.
12 Look at everyone who is proud and bring him under your control.
Crush the wicked wherever they are.
13 Bury them all in the dirt together.
Cover their faces in the grave.
14 If you can do that, then I myself will praise you
because you are strong enough to save yourself.
15 “Look at Behemoth.[a]
I made him just as I made you.
He eats grass like an ox.
16 Look at the strength he has in his body.
The muscles of his stomach are powerful!
17 His tail extends like a cedar tree.
The muscles of his thighs are woven together.
18 His bones are like tubes of bronze metal.
His legs are like bars of iron.
19 He is one of the first of God’s works.
But God, his Maker, can destroy him.
20 The hills, where the wild animals play,
provide food for him.
21 He lies under the lotus plants
hidden by the tall grass in the swamp.
22 The lotus plants hide him in their shadow.
The poplar trees by the streams surround him.
23 If the river floods, he will not be afraid.
He is not afraid even if the Jordan River rushes to his mouth.
24 Can anyone blind his eyes and capture him?
Can anyone put hooks in his nose?

40 Då talade Herren igen till Job från virvelvinden:
2 Res dig och gör dig beredd att lyssna till mig. Låt mig fråga dig, och svara mig sedan.
3 Tänker du ifrågasätta att jag är rättvis och fördöma mig för att själv få rätt?
4 Är du lika stark som Gud? Kan du ropa lika högt som han?
5 Då ska du ta på dig din kungamantel och klä dig i majestät och ära.
6 Ge fritt lopp åt din vrede! Låt den fara ut mot var och en som är stolt och högmodig!
7 Förödmjuka de högfärdiga med ett ögonkast och slå ner de ogudaktiga, där de står.
8 Slå dem till marken och låt deras ansikten stelna i döden.
9 Om du kan göra detta, då ska jag hålla med dig om att din egen styrka kan rädda dig.
10 Titta på flodhästen! Jag skapade honom, precis som jag skapade dig. Han äter gräs som en oxe.
11 Se på hans väldiga lår och hans bukmuskler.
12 Hans svans vajar som en ceder. Senorna i hans lår är tätt sammanflätade.
13 Hans benpipor är som rör av koppar och hans ben som stänger av järn.
14 Han tillhör det förnämsta bland Guds skapade varelser, men vem utom Gud kan tämja honom!
15 Bergen ger honom den bästa födan, och där betar också de andra vilda djuren.
16 Han lägger sig under lotusträden, i skydd av vassen,
17 bland pilarna bredvid floden.
18 Han låter sig inte störas av de vilda vågorna ens när Jordan vräker sig fram mot honom.
19 Ingen kan fånga honom när han ligger på lur, eller sätta en ring i hans nos och leda honom bort.
20 Kan du fånga krokodilen med krok och lina eller slå en snara runt hans tunga?
21 Kan du binda honom med rep och nosring eller genomborra hans käftar med en pik?
22 Kommer han att be dig sluta eller försöka få dig att avstå från dina avsikter?
23 Kommer han att gå med på att du gör honom till din slav för alltid?
24 Kan du tämja honom till ett sällskapsdjur, som en fågel, eller ge honom till dina barn som leksak?
25 Brukar uppköpare ge bud på honom och sälja honom vidare?
26 Kan du genomborra hans hud med en pil eller hans huvud med en harpun?
27 Om du rör honom, kommer du att länge minnas den strid som uppstår, och aldrig mer göra om försöket.
28 Nej, det är meningslöst att försöka fånga honom. Till och med blotta tanken är skrämmande.

Would you condemn me to justify yourself?(L)
9 Do you have an arm like God’s,(M)

10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor,
and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.(P)
11 Unleash the fury of your wrath,(Q)
look at all who are proud and bring them low,(R)
12 look at all who are proud(S) and humble them,(T)
crush(U) the wicked where they stand.
13 Bury them all in the dust together;(V)
shroud their faces in the grave.(W)
14 Then I myself will admit to you
that your own right hand can save you.(X)
15 “Look at Behemoth,
which I made(Y) along with you
and which feeds on grass like an ox.(Z)
16 What strength(AA) it has in its loins,
what power in the muscles of its belly!(AB)
17 Its tail sways like a cedar;
the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.(AC)
18 Its bones are tubes of bronze,
its limbs(AD) like rods of iron.(AE)
19 It ranks first among the works of God,(AF)
yet its Maker(AG) can approach it with his sword.(AH)
20 The hills bring it their produce,(AI)
and all the wild animals play(AJ) nearby.(AK)
21 Under the lotus plants it lies,
hidden among the reeds(AL) in the marsh.(AM)
22 The lotuses conceal it in their shadow;
the poplars by the stream(AN) surround it.
23 A raging river(AO) does not alarm it;
it is secure, though the Jordan(AP) should surge against its mouth.
24 Can anyone capture it by the eyes,
or trap it and pierce its nose?(AQ)

40 Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said,
2 Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
3 Then Job answered the Lord, and said,
4 Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
5 Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
6 Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
7 Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
8 Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
9 Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10 Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
11 Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
13 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
14 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
